The editors of Seznam Zpráv selected for the readers’ forum the most interesting opinions from the discussion of the article about the record share in the sale of goods with discounts.
Viktor Náprstek: Governments cannot dictate prices to producers, processors or traders. They may only affect taxes, which may not be reflected in the prices. When Babišs Kostelecké Uzeniny increases the prices of sausages, Schillerová can scold Fiala for robbing the people.
Petr Švec: This is how sellers “educated” their customers. Anyone who has spent some time in Germany, for example, will understand this more easily. There, goods are offered in +/- comparable price ranges without the decisive trigger for the first signaling system – ACTION – which is perceived by customers as “normal”, while here the situation has progressed to such an extent that without the “ACTION” there is nothing left on sale is. “ACTION” label. This is not an actual discount, but simply the result of the previous “education” of customers – the result of many years of marketing. The mere word ACTION is the trigger for purchasing behavior, not the actual price of the product.
Drahomír Stehlík: I said a long time ago that it is only a matter of time before dealers have problems selling God. It has reached such an extent that overpriced goods are no longer purchased and customers no longer want to be ridiculed.
Jaromír Svoboda: So without a “discount” we buy brutally overpriced goods, while with a discount we “only” buy overpriced goods. See, for example, butter: in Germany it usually costs 39 CZK, but in our country it costs 43 CZK with a “discount”. For example, Caro costs 134 in Alberta and 80 in the “Discount”. In Germany the standard price is 80. So this is the “Discount Kingdom”.
Karel David: Be aware that in a market environment, an entrepreneur sells his services at the highest prices that the market allows. Why on earth would he sell for less? In the summer I was in a supermarket in the county seat where carrots and onions cost about two cents. There was an unusable yard 100 meters away. In my opinion the operating costs are zero zero nothing, some private person sold fruit/vegetables there. And the prices? Basically the same as in the supermarket. As long as competition doesn’t drive down prices in supermarkets, nothing will change.
Karel Klíma: It’s not about losing weight. In short, it just fits the chain policy. They lure him to the items that are actually “normal” but marked as “on sale” in the expectation that while he’s there, some of the grossly overpriced items will also end up in his shopping cart, all without the “discount” mark. . Although the Czech Republic is characterized by the fact that it can be “chopped up”, a significant number of people have reduced their purchases or are traveling abroad. Well, “Action” is exactly the trick the chains use to make him an obedient lamb again. The exception is the “hard natures” who do not give in to temptation and in every single store (they go to about five of them a day) only buy what is marked as “discount”, i.e. what is “normal”. ” Price, or rather only slightly overpriced. They don’t even touch other goods. But it’s probably a minority of them.

Tomáš Zámečník: Reduced goods are still available at the price at which the retailer makes a profit. Goods at “normal prices” are therefore incredibly overpriced.
Miroslav Šilhavý: As long as unemployment is almost zero, the government has no way of stimulating the economy. This would only increase the burden on employees and the economic performance of companies would decline again. This was piled up, neglected and even placed under the boiler for a good ten years. Now there is no direct solution. The big risk is that companies will gradually relocate their activities to cheaper countries and then unemployment will skyrocket. This can happen within a few years. The Czech economy was overheated and on steroids. Now we have abs and are knocking on a cold.
