The Kremlin could go to war with NATO to justify its defeat in Ukraine. It is likely that the aggression will be of a hybrid nature, said analyst Valery Klochko in an interview with Focus.
Klochko claims that other experts with whom, like himself, he has professional relationships, are convinced that Russian aggression against the Baltic states is inevitable.
The debate among experts simply revolves around the question of whether this is a hybrid invasion or a large-scale invasion. Klochko himself leans towards the first option, since Russia is already “stuck” in Ukraine with all its forces.
“Putin is using the old horror story of ‘Russian-speaking oppression’ to justify attacks on the Baltic states, as he did in Crimea. For the Baltic states, the expulsion of the Russians is now a deterrent, but the Kremlin wants to use it,” the analyst notes.
As for the motives for such an attack, Klochko is sure that Putin simply does not want to lose the war to Ukraine – that would be too shameful. But there is no way to lose NATO.
