TRIBUNJABAR.ID, SUMEDANG – Earthquakes continue to occur in Sumedang today, Monday (08/01/2024).
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the Sumedang earthquake was triggered by a fault that crossed the urban area.
The fault was then called the Sumedang Fault.
In Sumedang itself, the emergency preparedness status for earthquake disasters was lifted on January 7, 2024.

This status was introduced for a week in response to damage to various public facilities and residents’ homes as a result of the first earthquake on December 31, 2023.
In response to the ongoing earthquakes, Sumedang Acting Regent Herman Suryatman said he would immediately coordinate with the BMKG.
“I have to confirm it with BMKG, I have to see it, it will be analyzed later,” Herman said in Sumedang, Monday (08/01/2024).
He said that even if the civil protection status had been revoked, it was possible that it would be implemented again taking into account the conditions and recommendations of the BMKG.
“A return to emergency use is possible, I will now coordinate with the BMKG,” said Herman.
As previously reported, the Sumedang Regency government has revoked the Earthquake Disaster Emergency Response Status, which was previously set for seven days from January 1 to 7, 2024.
“As of today, January 8, 2024, we are entering the rehabilitation phase,” said Sumedang Acting Regent Herman Suryatman.
This phase strengthened social consolidation and collected data on residents’ damaged houses and public facilities that were also affected by the earthquake.
In Sumedang, there were 20 earthquakes in Sumedang from December 31, 2023 to January 8, 2024, according to the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG).
