Bad news from the Soudal Quick-Step camp. The successful Belgian formation has to do without Louis Vervaeke for the time being. The 30-year-old Belgian would normally have taken part in the Trofeo Calvia today, but had to cancel due to stomach problems.
“Unfortunately I will not be starting my season in Mallorca today. Unfortunately, a stomach and intestinal problem is keeping me from cycling at the moment,” said Vervaeke himself on X, the former Twitter. Luckily for Soudal Quick-Step, the Trofeo Calvia is part of the Challenge Mallorca, where riders can be swapped.
This is partly good news for Vervaeke. If he recovers in time, he can still take part in his first race of the season later this week. The Belgian mountain goat will then travel to the Tour of the Algarve, Paris-Nice and the Tour of the Basque Country.
