On the southern edge of Antwerp, no buses will leave the Edegem and Tisselt (Willebroek) depots on Thursday and Friday. This is a consequence of the strike action that began on Wednesday at Keolis-De Reys, a subcontractor of De Lijn.

The strike, not the first in these two depots, began because of drivers’ dissatisfaction with the condition of the buses they have to drive. There are too few buses available to carry out all the planned trips, and of the buses that could run, several are said to have defects such as broken seats or mirrors.
Unions and management met for the first time on Wednesday to make arrangements for the arrival of additional technicians to carry out repairs. In the short term, the unions want there to be enough buses that are technically in working order to be able to carry out all journeys, but in the longer term replacement vehicles must also be available again. There will be new discussions on guarantees for these solutions on Thursday afternoon. But according to the socialist union ABVV, the buses will not be running again on Friday anyway.
De Lijn only confirms that there will be no buses from Edegem and Tisselt on Thursday. All affected lines are listed on De Lijn’s website. Travelers should consult De Lijn’s route planner to see what is possible. De Lijn says it does not wish to comment further on the subcontractor’s internal affairs. “But of course we hope that a solution will be found for the affected travelers soon,” says a spokesman.
