Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Hundreds Dog Those arrested by the Semarang police apparently suffered from the dog disease or rabies.
Semarang police chief Irwan Anwar said the results of testing two samples from dogs that died in the truck on Saturday (June 1) showed positive evidence of rabies.
“So we received information from the agricultural service, the results of testing samples from the veterinary center in Wates, one of which tested positive for rabies,” Irwan said in Semarang on Monday (1/15).
Due to this condition, the police will coordinate with the parties involved to immediately transfer the remaining 213 dogs to shelters that are more suitable, safer and, in any case, far from residential areas.
“We will coordinate with the parties involved, now we can immediately and quickly move these dogs to a suitable and safe place away from the residents,” explained Irwan.
Semarang City Agricultural Service Head Hernowo Budi Luhur said that his party had given rabies injections to dogs and people, in this case volunteers and officials, which they are now treating because rabies is easily contagious and fatal.
“We inject dogs and humans with anti-rabies. Because we know that rabies is easily transmitted and a deadly disease,” said Hernowo.
Previously, Semarang police together with the Animals Hope Shelter Indonesia community managed to thwart the delivery of 226 dogs to Solo at the Kalikangkung Semarang toll plaza on Saturday (June 1).
According to the results of the investigation, hundreds of dogs are slaughtered and their meat is consumed.
