When your baby is 6 to 9 weeks old, he or she can be vaccinated against rotavirus at Centrum Jeugd & Gezin The Hague. When your baby is 3 months old, he or she will receive the vaccine again. Rotavirus can cause severe diarrhea and dehydration in babies. This vaccination is offered free of charge for babies born from January 1, 2024.
The vaccination is not an injection; your baby is given drops of the vaccine in his mouth. The vaccine can be administered at any Youth and Family Center (CJG) location. Your child will receive the vaccine at one of the appointments at the CJG location. These appointments will be arranged together with you. Vaccination is voluntary; You decide whether your child receives the vaccine.
Why is the rotavirus vaccine important?
The virus is contagious and widespread. Especially for children up to 2 years old. If a child becomes infected with the virus, inflammation of the stomach and intestines occurs. This causes the child to develop a fever, vomit and develop very thin diarrhea. This can cause children to become dehydrated. Every year around 3,500 children with rotavirus have to be hospitalized.
