President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu Discuss Hostage Release in Gaza
Source: CNN
President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently engaged in a conversation primarily focused on the release of hostages in Gaza, according to a reliable source familiar with their phone call.
While a White House statement mentioned Biden’s stance on a potential Israeli invasion of Rafah, the main emphasis during the hour-long call was on the negotiations for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
The leaders also addressed the recent videos of two Americans being held hostage and Biden’s collaborative statement with leaders from 17 other nations, urging Hamas to agree to the terms of the ceasefire and hostage agreement.
Additionally, the discussion included plans to increase humanitarian aid delivery into Gaza, with preparations underway to open new northern crossings starting this week.
The Biden administration has expressed the importance of a clear and actionable plan from Israel to ensure the protection of civilians in Rafah.
Israel has communicated to the US its decision not to initiate an invasion in an area where over 1 million people are seeking shelter until concerns from the Biden administration are addressed.
Efforts are ongoing to reach an agreement that would involve a temporary ceasefire and the release of hostages, aiming for a period of peace lasting six weeks.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to visit the region this week to engage in discussions regarding the stalled ceasefire and hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
During the call, Biden reiterated his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, following recent aid packages that include substantial financial support for both Israel and other regions.
Biden’s firm stance on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was also highlighted during the call, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further consequences.

The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, had predicted that Israel would attack Rafah within a few days.
He expressed concern that even a small clash in Rafah, the last refuge for 1.4 million Palestinians, would lead to massive casualties.
He then called for US intervention.

“The only country that is responsible and can convince Israel that this attack is unacceptable is the United States.”
The White House said Israel had agreed to share America’s views and concerns before attacking Rafah, and Israel assured it would not attack Rafah despite American opposition.

“We have spoken to them several times and will continue to do so. They have assured us that they will not enter Rafah.”
He also said that President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu again today and repeated his request to be careful about Operation Rafa.
Apart from this, anti-war protests by American college students against Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have not stopped.
Some universities were forcibly dispersed by invoking public power on the grounds that “demonstrators promote anti-Semitism.”
In addition, the New York Times reported that more than 700 people across the United States, including 108 Columbia University students, were arrested for pro-Palestinian protests.
As opposition to the Biden administration’s pro-Israel policy in the US intensifies, and there are conflicting views within the ruling party, the White House reiterates its current position of respecting peaceful protests but criticizing the words and actions of anti- Semitic.

Philadelphia is about to be eliminated from the playoffs, because the New York Knicks beat it on Sunday 97:92 and took a 3:1 lead in the first round of the Eastern Conference. The incredible Jaylen Branson scored as many as 47 points for the home team in Madison Square Garden, which is his career record, and the current MVP of the NBA League, Joel Embiid, once again showed his dark side.
He played injured, because in the first half it was obvious that the Sixers couldn’t do without him, and even though he scored 27 points, he still marked the match with unsportsmanlike moves. At one point, he stepped on an opponent on the floor and it doesn’t seem like it was accidental… Look how he stepped on Josh Hart’s wrist with his 127 kilograms.
Also, the new USA national team member with a French passport, born in Cameroon, did not miss to “taste” and inspired Branson. As Knicks fans chanted “MVP, MVP” at their pet, the reigning MVP hit him in a way that must have hurt. And this is a coincidence?
Of course, this is not his first time and he has shown this behavior in previous matches of this series. Check out the compilation of his dirty moves too.
