Friends fans will surely remember the scene where Ross is determined to get the best price by filling his suitcase with all the “free” items in the hotel room, from toiletries to batteries, according to the Daily Star.
Although mini shampoo, amenity kits, and even a tea bag or two are acceptable, there are limits to what you can actually bring home from vacation. As Ross says, “You have to find the line between stealing and what the hotel owes you,” but one Berlin vacationer has definitely crossed that line.

Luxury hotel guide Wellness Heaven conducted a survey of the most common items stolen from guests and uncovered the strangest stories from employees.
They explained: “Guests who managed to steal bathroom equipment, a shower head, a hydromassage shower, a toilet seat, a drain pipe or even an entire sink, as reported by a hotel in Berlin.”
These weren’t the only strange stories the staff told. In England, hotel staff discovered that a guest had stolen a rather unusual item – the numbers from the hotel room door. “We only noticed it when another guest found his room,” admitted the hotel manager.

Of course, most people aren’t too tempted to grab a few freebies – but there’s a limit to what hotels consider acceptable.

According to the research, the towels that are most often stolen are those that are – unfortunately for guests – strictly on the “do not take with you” list. For this reason, most hotels these days require a deposit if you want extra towels or pool towels.
Some hotels even charge a fee for lost items when guests check out of the hotel, especially if they are items that were not considered free, as this is considered theft.
Bathrobes, hangers and pens were also among the most important items that vacationers packed in their suitcases when they returned home.

So what can guests pick up for free? As a general rule, everything is free: mini toiletries, amenity kits, snacks if they are free with your order, pens and paper on the desk, slippers if you have opened and worn them.

However, bed linen, towels, bathrobes and electrical appliances are considered the property of the hotel. So if you decide to take these with you, you may have to pay a hefty fee.
