As a global leader in the crop nutrition market and the world’s leading producer of phosphate fertilizers, the OCP Group recently launched a major potash mining project in the Khémisset region, east of Rabat, with the aim of exploiting and enriching ores.
The OCP Group is expanding its influence with the realization of an ambitious potash mining project in the Khémisset region, 80 km east of Rabat. National. Already holding a prominent position as the world’s leading producer of phosphate fertilizers, OCP is expanding its range of activities by focusing on potash, an essential element in the production of fertilizers and fertilizers.
This project is part of the Group’s vision to diversify its product and service offering to support agricultural development and ensure the country’s autonomy in this important crop nutrition resource.
The project is based in the Khémisset region and covers an area of 176 km2. The focus of the project is on the utilization and enrichment of potash ore. The OCP Group’s two operating licenses cover the strategic areas in the center of Khémisset, Sidi Daoud and Oued Beht.
The Khemisset mining project has already made significant progress, including the consolidation of geological exploration. Initiation of feasibility studies and certification of resources are estimated at nearly 350 million tonnes. These successes demonstrate the group’s commitment to innovation and the implementation of strategic projects.
Responsibility for the studies and implementation of the project has been entrusted to JESA, a subsidiary of the OCP Group and an African leader in engineering. JESA has extensive technical expertise and know-how, which is essential for the success of the project.
By focusing on the sustainable use of potash ore, the OCP Group wants to establish new standards in research and innovation. A research program was developed in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) to develop innovative ore processing processes, optimize water consumption and recover liquid and solid waste.
Beyond the national impact on food security, the Khemisset mining project will become a driver of socio-economic development in the region. A tunnel is currently being dug that is already over 1,000 meters long, which represents significant progress. This project also demonstrates OCP’s commitment to sustainability and promoting economic progress.
