The Lancia Ypsilon may have had its years, but it remains an extremely popular model among Italian consumers. This is shown by the results that the city car achieved last year and is now ready for the new generation: “2023 was the second record year,” explains the CEO of the Turin brand, Luca Napolitano. “The Ypsilon has achieved the second-best market share in its history in the B segment. Within the segment, the hybrid version has positioned itself at the top and the Ecochic LPG version is the third best-selling in the segment. After 39 years of success, four generations, more than three million units sold, 37 special series, 12 consecutive years on the podium in the B segment, Lancia’s fashionable city car is definitely a record car.
The numbers. According to the data provided by Lancia itself, the Ypsilon was registered in 44,743 examples last year (+9% compared to 2022), a growth that allowed it to conquer third place in the Italian market, the second place among the most popular brands from the Stellantis Group and the second best share in its history in the B segment (14.9%). Within the segment, the Ypsilon is the best-selling hybrid with 39,683 registrations and a market penetration of 46.9%, while the Ecochic LPG version is the third most popular model in the gas-powered B segment with 4,982 units and a weight of 9.7%.
