2026 College Admissions Policy: Students with History of School Violence Barred from Substitute Teacher Position Eligibility
Starting in 2026, when current high school sophomores enter college, it will be virtually impossible for students with a history of school violence to apply for a substitute position. The path for student perpetrators of school violence to become primary school teachers is blocked.
According to the educational community, on the 6th, all 10 universities in the country decided not to grant admission to at least one type of test to students with a history of school violence recorded in their school records (student records). Specifically, in the case of Seoul National University of Education, Busan National University of Education, Gyeongin National University of Education and Jinju National University of Education, regardless of the severity of the case, applicants with a history of school violence will not be admitted. eligible to apply or, if they apply, they will be disqualified.
The remaining universities intend to not only provide support for cases of serious school violence, and to deduct points for minor cases of school violence. However, it is expected that it will actually be difficult for test takers who have committed school violence to pass due to the large point deduction. Even in the case of the lighter provision no. 1 (written apology), Chuncheon National University of Education deducts 40 points from rolling admissions with a total score of 100 points and 100 points from regular admissions with a total score of 600 points. Starting from point 2 (no contact, threats or retaliation), candidates will not be able to apply.
In addition to the National University of Education, Korea National University of Education, Ewha Womans University and Jeju National University, which have elementary education departments, also plan to limit support for students who have committed school violence. This follows the “comprehensive measures to eradicate school violence” announced by the Ministry of Education last year, with the intention of applying stricter character standards to students entering the school to train school teachers elementary.
