Lucinda Brand (Baloise Trek Lions) became Dutch champion in the women’s elite on Sunday in Hoogeveen. In the men’s event, Joris Nieuwenhuis won the Dutch title.
After a long solo, the 34-year-old Brand was stronger than the 21-year-old Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck). Annemarie Worst (Cyclocross Reds) took bronze. Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Alpecin-Deceuninck) missed the podium in fourth place, Manon Bakker (Crelan-Corendon) was fifth. World champion Fem van Empel (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) did not start.
Pieterse was the first to take the field in Hoogeveen. Worst tried to keep the wheel of the outgoing champion. Brand and Alvarado followed in third and fourth place. Brand then put pressure on Pieterse and quietly drove away from her. Worst had to make up half a minute with three laps to go, while Alvarado was a minute behind.
Brand, who suffered a broken nose after her serious fall in Zonhoven, continued to extend her lead. In the last lap she had no more problems. She succeeds Puck Pieterse as Dutch champion. It is Brand’s third national cyclocross title.

Nieuwenhuis wins after a long solo
Joris Nieuwenhuis (Baloise Trek Lions) became Dutch champion in the men’s elite on Sunday. The 27-year-old Nieuwenhuis managed a solo about halfway to victory in Hoogeveen. Pim Ronhaar (Baloise Trek Lions) came second ahead of Lars van der Haar (Baloise Trek Lions). The entire podium went to the team of strongman Sven Nys. Ryan Kamp (Fenix) was fourth ahead of Tibor del Grosso (Alpecin-Deceuninck). With this, Del Grosso secured, among other things, the Dutch title.
No world champion Mathieu van der Poel at the start of the national championships. It started very chaotically with a fall in the first few meters involving Ryan Kamp and David Haverdings. At the top were Nieuwenhuis, Ronhaar, Van der Haar, Del Grosso and Corné van Kessel.
Nieuwenhuis accelerated after passing the material station and drove away from his competitors. He started the second lap with a small lead of 3 seconds over Ronhaar and 18 seconds over Van der Haar. Van Kessel came fourth. After 10 minutes of crossing, Ronhaar joined his teammate Nieuwenhuis at the front and we had two leaders.
Nieuwenhuis made the best impression on the half-cross and rode away from Ronhaar. With two laps to go, out of a total of 8 laps, the gap was finally closed. Ronhaar followed after half a minute, while Van der Haar was already one and a half minutes behind. The positions have been determined. Nieuwenhuis, already this season’s winner in Merksplas, Boom and Val di Sole, succeeds his teammate Lars van der Haar as Dutch champion. It is his first elite national title.
