RSC Anderlecht finally seems to be fighting for the main prizes again this season. The people of Brussels owe this not least to their last summer Mercato. RSCA brought many additional qualities with them, for example the experienced Thomas Delaney.
After a weak eleventh place last season, sports director Jesper Fredberg gave everything in the summer transfer period. Unlike his predecessors, the Dane had a good budget and managed to spend it well. For example, the sports CEO hired almost an entire team of new workers.
Among other things, Fredberg targeted guys with the necessary experience who could lead the team. For example, Mats Rits was taken away by rival Club Brugge. And at the end of the Mercato, the Purple & White announced the arrival of former Golden Boot Thorgan Hazard.
Experienced Danes
Not surprisingly, Fredberg also entered the Danish market. In his own words, recruiting Kasper Dolberg was one of his greatest personal successes. Two experienced national players, Kasper Schmeichel and Delaney, were signed.
The latter was quickly given a permanent place by coach Brian Riemer and is now considered one of the mainstays on and off the field. Last weekend, Delaney even wore the captain’s armband. Nevertheless, his future at Lotto Park looks uncertain.
Extended stay?
Ultimately, the midfielder was signed on loan and will in principle return to parent club Sevilla FC after the season. But Delaney does not rule out extending his stay in Brussels. “I’m happy here. We haven’t discussed anything yet because the end of the season is still a long way off. But integration is going well, my family is happy here and loves the city. There’s nothing stopping me from staying longer,” he told the 32-year-old The last hour.
