In late autumn, Lexus management made a succinct promise that the high-performance version of the LBX urban crossover could be presented in January.
It doesn’t take much imagination to guess: this version will certainly be powered by the GR Yaris’ 261 horsepower three-cylinder turbo engine, with variable torque distribution all-wheel drive and, according to rumors, an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission.

However, according to the Japanese car magazine Mag-X, the development could be even more serious: they are talking about 272 hp and in this context an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 6 seconds is conceivable.
If the manual transmission is not available for the premium city SUV, the double wishbone rear suspension will certainly be integrated into the modified car, and springs, shock absorbers and stabilizers can also be tuned to be tighter. In addition, a retuning of the stability control electronics is essential if the developers really care about driving pleasure and not just pure performance.
As for the name, there are three options: LBX Turbo is the simplest variant, but at the same time has the lowest expectations in terms of improving the suspension, brakes and steering. Then there is the LBX F, which would make the small car a member of the legendary Lexus F sports model family – but that would require more power. Finally, one can imagine LBX GR or GR LBX, which would most accurately describe the capabilities of the model variant. We would be happy about that too, because Gazoo Racing has never given its name to a Lexus model – but if they do it now, they can even create a tradition and pave the way for more sporty Lexus models.
