The 53rd indoor competitions of the Latvian Championship 2024 took place on two days – Saturday and Sunday – in the athletics arena of the Jānis Daliņas Stadium in Valmiera. Adult, junior (U20) and youth (U18, U16, U14) age groups competed for the 2024 Latvian championship titles and championship medals in the heptathlon and pentathlon.
At the championship held, ten gold medals were won by the Latvian champions in five age groups. Another 20 all-rounders received slightly lower grades – silver and bronze medals. If we continue the list of positive facts, we note that the six young champions achieved the best results in their age group in Latvia this season. A Latvian record was also improved: in the U18 age group, Kārlis Jēkabs Karslbergs (Ogre) exceeded the record set at the end of last year by Ernests Atvars Paļulis (5313 points) by 58 points. The new record is now 5371 points.
The best results of the season in the U-16 group were achieved by Mārtiņš Matisāns (Preiļi) – 4172 points and Sandija Reitmane (Ogre) – 3437 points.; in the U18 group Nikola Bunde (Sigulda) – 3737 points; for juniors (U20) Sanija Robežniece (Kuldīga) – 3179 points, as well as the men’s heptathlon champion Reinis Krēgers (Valmiera) – 5541 points.
Reinis Krēgers became Latvian champion in the indoor all-around for the first time. In 2011 he came third. On the other hand, he became Latvian decathlon champion in 2012 and 2023. In a very intense women’s battle, the Latvian champion is also the leader this season for the third time in a row (4203 points) – Gerda Kerija Dreimane (Bauska) – 4005 points.
