Today, Iran launched three satellites into orbit using the Simorgh launch vehicle developed by the Defense Ministry. Citing the Club of Young Journalists, a news portal affiliated with state television IRIB, Reuters reported the news.
A satellite weighing 32 kilograms and two nanosatellites weighing less than ten kilograms each were sent into an orbit of at least 450 kilometers. Two smaller facilities will test narrow-band communications and geolocation technologies.
The larger satellite, called Mahda, was built by the Iranian space agency. The aim is to test the accuracy of the Símorgh rocket when transporting larger payloads into space.
Iran launched the Sorajya satellite into orbit this month using a rocket from the space arm of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. This raised concerns in Western countries that the technology of this launch vehicle could be used to develop long-range ballistic missile systems.
Iran rejected the criticism on Saturday. Tehran has declared that peaceful technological progress in space is the country’s legitimate right.
