This year, VAT in Estonia was increased from the previous 20 to 22 percent, and telecommunications companies Telia, Tele 2 and Elisa operating in this Baltic state rushed to announce the increasing prices for services.
All companies say they will announce that basic services such as mobile communications and home internet will become more expensive in proportion to the increase in VAT. For example, Telia’s mobile phone tariff with unlimited data volume, which previously cost 35 euros per month, will increase to 35.58 euros from March. The price for 100 Mbit/s home internet increases from 27 to 27.45 euros per month.
“Elisa” previously charged 40.99 euros for the mobile phone tariff with unlimited data volume and will charge 41.68 euros due to the increasing VAT. The price for 150 Mbit/s home internet at this company increases from 26.99 to 27.44 euros.
The Estonian broadcaster “Tele 2” will also increase prices accordingly and announced in its announcement that it would increase by 2 percent from now on. International calls, sending SMS messages abroad, roaming and even services such as SMS notification of lottery winnings are also becoming more expensive.
Television is becoming more expensive
However, the Estonian broadcaster Telia has decided to make serious price changes and recently informed TV users that they will have to pay significantly more from March.
For example, the cheapest Telia TV Mini tariff costs between 7.11 and 8 euros, and the set-top box for the television costs 7 euros per month instead of 5.08 euros.
“One of our goals is to offer our customers exclusive and original TV content. However, sourcing and producing good TV content has become more expensive in recent years and the costs of launching a TV service have increased. “In order to ensure diverse content and a constantly improving and high-quality TV service, the prices of some TV services will be changed in March,” Estonian Telia said in a letter to customers.
Estonian media calculate that all this means that users of the most modest mobile, home Internet and TV services Telia will have to pay an additional 43 euros per year.
“Mass changes are not planned”
The Lithuanian “Telia” representative Audrius Stasiulaitis Delphi explains that he cannot comment on the decisions of the Estonian company and assures that in Lithuania the company “does not carry out mass price indexation for its customers and does not plan to do so”.
According to A. Stasiulaitis, the Lithuanian “Telia” regularly updates the plans of various service groups every few years, and the prices of individual services usually change due to the natural life cycle of the plans.
“We take into account the changing needs of customers for Internet speed, data volume or TV content, but also the needs for additional values or services – this is how we create new service plans and gradually close the old ones,” explains the Telia representative.
According to him, the telecommunications market is highly competitive and strictly regulated, and the companies operating in it face the pressure of high inflation and energy prices by taking into account the sum of very complex parts: “However, the management of the company itself.” This is definitely not the case Last place, which is why we always try to amortize the cost pressure to the customers first, but at the expense of their own efficiency.”
“Bee” increases the tariffs
Tele2 PR manager Asta Buitkutė Delphi It was also recently said that no changes to existing contracts for private and business customers are currently planned.
“Competition in the telecommunications market remains very high, although we are affected by the economic slowdown and increased costs. “We listen to what our customers really need, so every year we invest in the modernization and development of the network, as well as in expanding the range of additional services,” said A. Buitkutė.
“If you use the call service, home internet, portable internet or Bitės TV for home Go3, the price of the service plan will change by 1.88 euros per month,” said the letter sent by Bitės.
Paulius Kudarauskas, head of Bitė’s retail segment, explained that prices will be revised so that the company can continue to invest in the latest technologies, create and develop new services and improve quality.
“In such cases, we assess the general economic situation, changes in the prices of goods and services as well as wages and other factors affecting the provision of services.” As we prepared for price changes from February next year, we assessed how the Service prices should change in order to maintain the high quality of services and continue to successfully maintain the historically large amount of 100 million. EUR – investments”, – Delphi said Father Kudarauskas.
