The Mazda MX-30 returns in 2024 without major changes. However, the United States is removing the utility from its market, making it a Canadian exclusive. But how long?
« [Le constructeur] We decided to leave it here because we need an electric car to compensate for the range and continue selling combustion engine vehicles,” explains columnist Antoine Joubert.

Low autonomy
The MX-30 is based on the same platform as the CX-30 subcompact SUV. A 35.5 kWh battery powers the front wheels and output increases to 143 hp. Under ideal conditions, the range increases to 161 km, but in the cold season this value drops to 90 or 100 km, according to the expert.

It’s a shame, because a plug-in hybrid version (R-EV) is on the menu in Europe. It has a smaller battery that allows a range of 80 km and a rotary motor that increases the range. “It’s very special because if you look under the hood you’ll find a big hole where there’s room for an internal combustion engine,” notes Antoine.
Symbolic back seats
Rear seat passengers may feel cramped due to the small windows. In addition, opposite doors cannot open independently of each other.

On the other hand, the interior is of high quality. The materials are richer on board the GT version. “The driving position is very good,” emphasizes the expert. I really like the seats and the interior design.”
