According to the portal dezeen.com, “Renco” blocks consist of fiberglass, resin and stone – 40 percent. Materials from other industries, such as shipbuilding, where they would simply be recycled.
They were designed to be stronger, require less energy and be cheaper than traditional materials.
The blocks were first used after earthquakes in Turkey to rebuild infrastructure more quickly and cost-effectively after natural disasters, as well as to build apartment complexes in the United States.
“Renco’s structural building system is a new way of building that is 23 times stronger than concrete, less expensive and can be completed in less time,” the company said.
“Think of it like a real Lego set, with shaped bricks that fit together to create entire structures,” she continued.
By simplifying construction into a Lego-like set, Renco buildings can be assembled much more quickly, reducing labor time and energy consumption.
Each molded block is rectangular in shape and features a set of studs at the top that can snap together and stack like Lego bricks.
According to the team, the dimensions of a typical block are 20 x 20 x 40 centimeters, or 20 percent. lighter than traditional concrete blocks. Methyl methacrylate glue is used to connect the blocks together. These are distributed with a glue gun.
For example, Renco USA’s first residential complex in Florida was completed in record time. It took about eight weeks for eleven unskilled workers to construct four identical three-story buildings in this way. Such buildings could also be constructed in areas prone to hurricanes and earthquakes.
