In 2024, an unprecedented case will be observed for the first time since the index was created – six, namely France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain, are considered the strongest passports in the world. Residents of these countries can enjoy visa-free access or visa upon entry to 194 countries worldwide.
CNN notes that Japan and Singapore have “warmed up” the top spot on the list over the past five years, but the addition of European countries can be viewed as a triumphant rise.
The Baltic countries also had the honor of making it into the top 10. Lithuania and Estonia share 8th place with 187 destinations, while Latvia shares 9th place with Slovakia and Slovenia with a passport that allows us entry to 189 destinations.
Also worth mentioning is the United Arab Emirates, which, as has been consistently seen over the last decade, continues to climb to the top, ranking 11th this year with 106 destinations.
Kristians H. Keilins, board member of Henley&Partners and creator of the strongest passport index, said the average number of destinations a country’s passport can be used for has increased from 58 destinations in 2006 to 111 this year.
