Ukraine is trying to dispel speculation about preparations for a new massive Russian offensive near Kharkiv. “We have not detected any concentration of Russian forces near the border with the Kharkiv region,” he said on Friday server Kiev post head of the military-civilian administration of the region Oleh Synehubov.
Russian forces have repeatedly put pressure on Ukrainian defenses in the region since last summer. Ukraine has repeatedly partially evacuated the area around the city of Kupiansk, where people live in constant fear of renewed Russian occupation. Despite the pressure, the front hardly moves.
Fierce fighting recently broke out near the village of Synkivka, which is just a few kilometers from Kupyansk. The Russians are trying to establish a bridgehead there to attack this city. It is an important logistics hub that the occupiers first used when they controlled the region.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) quotes Volodymyr Fitya, a spokesman for the Ukrainian ground forces command, in its latest analysis. In his opinion, the pace of local Russian offensive operations in the Kupiansk direction has currently decreased, possibly due to worsening weather conditions.
Ukrainian military observer Kosťantyn Mašovec said parts of the 25th Motorized Rifle Brigade recently launched an unsuccessful attack north of Synkivka.
Reports of hard roofs near this town near Kupyansk are confirmed by numerous Shots from the region from the last few weeks. For example, the authenticity of some videos was confirmed by a respected military officer analyst Rob Lee from the American think tank Foreign Policy Research Institute.
The videos published by the Ukrainian side – of course also carefully selected and edited – show how the Russian attempt to gain control of the Synkivka area ended again and again with the same sequence of events.
The convoy of Russian vehicles is quickly discovered by Ukrainian drones. The technology then becomes the target of attacks from other drones, whether kamikaze or bomber, as well as artillery fire and cluster munitions. Minefields play an important role.
As seen in the opening video, the lead technician encounters a mine and it explodes. The rest of the column falls apart. Some tanks or armored personnel carriers try to avoid the crashed lead vehicle, but instead encounter mines. A retreat is also dangerous because there are mines behind the convoy. Most of the photos were taken between December and early January.
The invasion units lost a lot of equipment in the attacks, according to the American analyst’s contribution.
News from the battlefield
At the end of the year, Russia launched heavy air strikes against the Ukrainian hinterland. This was preceded by months of “mapping” of Ukraine’s defenses using Iranian technology. In addition, compared to the previous year, the focus is no longer on energy, but on factories.
