Boston Dynamics Bids Farewell to Iconic Humanoid Robot Atlas with Memorable Blooper Reel & Announces New All-Electric Robot in Development
Boston Dynamics, the Hyundai-owned robotics company, announced the retirement of its famous humanoid robot, Atlas. The robot had captured the imagination of millions with its ability to run, dance and perform gymnastic stunts. The company bid farewell to Atlas with a send-off video that showcases all of its capabilities and some humorous bloopers.
Atlas was originally developed by Boston Dynamics for a DARPA robotics challenge in 2013 and was later improved in 2015 at the request of DARPA. Over the years, Boston Dynamics continued to improve Atlas’ capabilities, eventually making it capable of performing advanced parkour and gymnastics. It seemed like Atlas was becoming primed for work use as well, with recent videos showcasing how it could help out on construction sites and perform basic factory work.
While one Atlas may be retiring, Boston Dynamics has announced a new all-electric robot that will still be called Atlas. The company has said they are working with Hyundai to develop this new technology that will feature improvements such as a broader range of motion and better gripping variations.
This retirement marks a turning point for Boston Dynamics as their robots have captivated audiences around the world through their innovative design and capabilities. However, while these robots may seem like just another form of entertainment today, they hold immense potential for industrial applications tomorrow.
With advancements in artificial intelligence technology accelerating at an unprecedented rate across various industries including manufacturing operations optimization provided by platforms like SensrTrx ERP software integration solutions among others,it is wise to suppose that future iterations of robots like Atlas could soon become integral parts of many different parts manufacturing processes from start to finish no matter what industry or product they are being used for.
As these designs evolve even further over time through research & development investments made by companies such as Hyundai Robotics inks deals worth $4 billion annually led by AI automation dominance among others possible under Disciple Robots era label launching high-quality products into markets increasingly hungry for more, these devices may even one day be used to replace human workers entirely in factories throughout the world.
For now, however, we can say goodbye to Atlas and admire its achievements throughout its lifetime.

Chinese Home Appliance Brands Make Waves in European Market at Milan Design Week
Even the European home appliance market… China’s incessant airstrikes
Haier attracts attention at Milan Design Week
Candy targets the European built market
The ‘Bionic Cook’ oven presented by China’s Haier at ‘Eurocucina’, a home appliance and furniture exhibition within ‘Milan Design Week’, within the world’s largest design exhibition ‘Milan Design Week’, held at Rho Fiera, Milan, Italy since the 16th (local time). In this oven, cooking is almost complete by adding ingredients such as onions or potatoes. The camera installed inside shows the best possible recipe for what to cook with these ingredients, and a dedicated connected application recommends and sets the cooking method. There is no need to wait for the food to finish cooking. When it’s done, the app notifies you with an alarm.
The company that made this oven is not Miele or Bosch, the powerhouses of traditional European home appliances. Not even Samsung Electronics or LG Electronics. The main character is Haier, a Chinese home appliance company. The new ‘Bionic Cook’ oven was introduced at this exhibition which targets the European market. The visitors were also enthusiastic. The Haier booth was so crowded that there was no room to walk. Chinese home appliance companies, which in the past only competed on ‘cost-effectiveness’, have now progressed to the point where they are on a par with global companies in terms of technological prowess. ‘Candy’ is placed next to the Haier booth ‘Candy’, located next to the Haier booth, is another Haier home appliance brand. Candy, originally an Italian home appliance company, changed hands when Haier acquired it in 2019. Haier has started targeting the local market through mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Haier bought not only Candy, but also the home appliance division of General Electric (GE) in the United States and Fisher & Fickle in New Zealand.
In this exhibition, Candy focused on built-in home appliances. Unlike Haier, which emphasized technological capabilities such as artificial intelligence (AI) in all products, it differentiated itself. It was ‘adapted’ to specialize in the European market, which focuses on built-in home appliances.
The built-in home appliance market is classified as a premium market. This is because the price is more than 15% higher than selling a single product. Among them, Europe was worth $25 billion (about 33 trillion won) from last year, accounting for more than one third of the global market ($60 billion). This is why not only China but also Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are paying attention.
Because it is a business-to-business (B2B) business, the barrier to entry is high. As furniture, interior design and specifications have to be matched, local companies such as Miele and Bosch, who have been working together for a long time, take the lead.
Visitors are crowded at the Haier booth set up at the home appliance and furniture exhibition ‘Eurocucina’ within the world’s largest design exhibition ‘Milan Design Week’ held in Milan, Italy on the 16th (local time). Domestic companies are very nervous about the leap forward by Chinese home appliance companies. “Many (Chinese companies) are following suit and are price competitive,” said Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and Head of Device Experience (DX) at Samsung Electronics “It seems that European manufacturers are also anxious.” Ryu Jae-cheol, head of LG Electronics’ H&A Business Division, also singled out Haier as the leading company to watch for, saying, “Launching good products and releasing them faster than competitors is the formula for success we have used in the past, and China is using this method quickly,” he said.
