Tragic Incident Unfolds in Ontario
In a devastating turn of events in Ontario, California, two individuals lost their lives over the weekend in a series of harrowing incidents involving a domestic violence suspect.
Escalation of Events
The situation escalated dramatically as the suspect, identified as Orlando Montes, 39, of San Bernardino, engaged in reckless behavior while fleeing from law enforcement. The events unfolded with Montes driving the wrong way on the 60 Freeway, endangering countless lives in the process.
Despite efforts by the police to peacefully resolve the situation, Montes refused to comply and ultimately caused a fatal collision on surface streets, resulting in the tragic death of a woman named Amanda Powers.
Heartbreaking Loss
Amanda Powers, a 44-year-old woman on her way to assist a friend with moving, was senselessly killed in the crash. Her friend Deandre Hendrix expressed profound grief over the loss, emphasizing the need for accountability in such situations.
Family members of Powers, who preferred not to be interviewed on camera, highlighted her compassionate nature and the unjust nature of her untimely death.
Final Moments
Following the collision, Montes attempted to flee the scene and engage in a carjacking, further escalating the chaos. Despite law enforcement intervention, Montes, who was already wanted on a domestic violence warrant, met a tragic end when he was shot and killed.
Montes’ sister, Fabiola Montes, shed light on her brother’s struggles with mental health issues and his efforts to seek help, underscoring the complexities of the situation.
Reflection and Remembrance
As the community mourns the loss of Amanda Powers and grapples with the repercussions of the incident, it serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence.
Deandre Hendrix’s poignant words echo the sentiments of many who knew Powers, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in the face of such tragedies.

Statement on immigration from the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Kurtulmuş! We have to put forward new approaches
Stating that Turkey is one of the countries that make the greatest sacrifices in the world in terms of humanitarian aid, especially in the field of immigrants, Kurtulmuş said, “In this sense, I can say that we have an extraordinary experience in migration.”
“WE HOST DESPITE PEOPLE”
Stating that Turkey has a great experience in migration in historical terms, Kurtulmuş said: “After the collapse of the Ottoman World State, many Ottoman citizens who came from different regions of the Ottoman Empire before and after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey came to the Republic of Turkey. They came and found a new homeland for themselves in Anatolia.
Additionally, throughout history, we have opened our lands to those fleeing attacks and hosted them. For example, more than 500 years ago, the place where Jews and people of different ethnic and religious origins, escaping from the Inquisition courts in Spain, came and took shelter was Turkey and the Ottoman lands. Again, during the Second World War, Türkiye became the refuge for Jews escaping from the Nazi massacres in Germany. As an example, I can say this. In 1938, Turkey opened its doors to Jewish scientists from Europe who escaped the massacre of the Nazis, and many faculties of Istanbul and Ankara universities became the center of important scientific research, thanks to Jewish scientists of German origin. “Today, we continue this historical mission and host desperate people from all over the world,” he said.
“IT IS THE DUTY OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY”
Regarding migration becoming a global problem, Kurtulmuş said, “However, migration is not a single cause, but a dire outcome resulting from many causes, threatening humanity. “Therefore, it is the duty of the international community to find these different reasons for migration, to fight against the reasons that cause migration and make migration a global threat, and to eliminate them,” he said.
Kurtulmuş underlined that it is not possible to solve the immigrant issue without eliminating wars, poverty and deprivations, occupations, civil conflicts, climate change, and especially new waves of migration brought by drought, desertification, famine and thirst caused by climate change, and the ongoing instability in many parts of the world.
“SYRIANS HAD TO MIGRATE TO TURKEY TO SURVIVE”
Regarding Turkey’s immigration policy, Kurtulmuş said, “In order to solve the immigrant issue, we need to ensure that these consequences are eliminated. I want to say it very clearly. The issue of uncontrolled migration cannot be prevented by military or security measures. If that were the case, for example, we are in Mexico, not a single person from Mexico should set out to immigrate to the United States. If irregular migration could be prevented by military measures, dozens of migrant ships would not disappear to the bottom of the cold sea every day in the Mediterranean, Central Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean. The number of migrants who have died in the Mediterranean alone has exceeded 29 thousand so far.
We talk about the migration of thousands, tens of thousands of people from Afghanistan, but we never talk about how the decades-long occupation of Afghanistan, first by the Russians and then by the Americans, left the Afghan people in despair. If the Afghan people were not in that despair, for God’s sake, would any of them want to risk their lives and immigrate to other countries? Now let’s talk about Turkey’s experience. We are talking about more than 3 million Syrians. “These Syrians, whose villages were burned, their cities destroyed by bombs, and who were faced with death, had only one option other than survival, to migrate to Turkey,” he said.
Stating that today the entire burden of migration falls on underdeveloped and developed countries, Kurtulmuş said, “Just as we say we need a new system for the political and economic systems in the world, we also need new institutions and new approaches regarding migration.”
“An INTERNATIONAL FUND SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED”
Expressing his suggestion on migration, Kurtulmuş said, “It is a humanitarian duty to establish an international fund to eliminate the consequences of migration and for countries to support this fund at a certain rate of their gross national product according to their wealth levels. “We have to achieve this and thus put forward new approaches to migration.” he said.
Following the sessions within the scope of the 10th Meeting of Parliament Speakers, Mexican House of Representatives Speaker Marcela Guerra Castillo handed over the term presidency of MIKTA to South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo. The meeting ended with taking a family photo.

presented the opportunities for Abruzzo businesses
The meeting promoted by Confindustria Abruzzo, Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico and Match4.0 took place which illustrated the tools intended for Abruzzo companies that will allow them to remain competitive in a world in constant and rapid transformation, through funding already allocated, with coverage up to 100% for Abruzzo SMEs.
Born in 2018 by all the Confindustria associations of Abruzzo, MATCH 4.0 – Digital Innovation Hub Abruzzo is an agile and widespread structure throughout the territory which aims to facilitate and promote through awareness-raising, training and support activities, digital transformation, innovation and sustainability processes in the sectors of Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing.
Taking steps from the objectives indicated by the Digital Europe Programme, Match 4.0, together with prestigious partners, has already been awarded important projects that will have significant impacts on the territory in terms of Digitalization, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence. Among the most important challenges is the creation of a resilient and sustainable ecosystem, more efficient and competitive.
The General Director of Confindustria Abruzzo Luigi Di Giosaffatte, introducing the work, underlined that, “Important European funds will arrive thanks to the highly qualified partnership, we therefore have the collective responsibility to spend the funds on the territory and for businesses, at a crucial moment in history. In particular, we want to reach small businesses: it is essential to raise the level of digitalisation of Abruzzo’s SMEs. If the level of digitalization and innovation does not grow, our medium and small businesses will not be able to survive on international markets. Large and specialist companies, in addition to being able to use the services with a lower intensity financial intervention, can apply to provide value-added services for SMEs.”
Per Ercole Cauti – Director of Match 4.0: “The real challenge is skills, there is no shortage of funding at the moment. Among our partners there are very high skills brought for example by universities, research centers, ITS, which we will make available in the services that will be provided to companies. There are resources to provide answers to all the companies that want to receive the services, which will also be provided through selected providers.”
For example, with the EDIHAMO project – which involves thirty-one partners – services will be managed ranging from evaluation analysis on digital maturity in companies – to identify any gaps present in the company. Service offered to SMEs with 100% financing. We will train the people present in the company, because only with motivated and informed people will there be a full transition to digitalisation. From cyber security to supercomputers, to offer predictive and data processing services through networks of super computers. Here too, up to 24 months of training for SMEs are 100% financed. The ability to promote the use of services by businesses will be fundamental.
He spoke on behalf of the Abruzzo Region Daniele Antinarella.
The opportunities reserved for the production system, through a catalog of digitalisation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence services, offered in the sectors of evaluation, test before investment, training and skill development, financing research and networking, have been illustrated in detail for the benefit of many companies also present at the event from Andrea Ciccarelli – for UniTE, Fabio Graziosi – per UnivAQ, Gaetano Vespasian – for REISS Romoli, Giovanna Frastalli – per Match 4.0, Valentina Carlini – Manager of the Confindustria Digitalisation and Supply Chain area.
He moderated the event Alessandro Di Emidiojournalist.
