Sriharikota ∙ ISRO’s new mission Exposat (X-ray polarimeter satellite) is the pride of the nation on New Year’s Day. PSLV C-58 launched with the Exposat satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. ISRO declared the launch a success.
It is India’s first X-ray polarimeter satellite to study black holes and neutron stars. What is also special is that this is the 60th launch of PSLV. At the same time, 10 small satellites were also launched. The satellites include ‘V-SAT’, manufactured by the students of LBS Women’s Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram.
The EXPOSAT mission will last five years. There are two main surveys such as Polix and Expect. This is the world’s second launch of an X-ray polarimeter satellite. Only the USA has carried out such a mission so far. NASA launched the X-ray polarimeter satellite in 2021.
After Chandrayaan 3, the third lunar exploration mission, and Aditya L-1, the solar mission, ISRO is also studying black holes. Preparations are also underway for the Gaganyaan mission, which will send people into space.
