NAWACITAPOST.COM – The Indonesian Pulmonary Physicians Association (PDPI) has urged the government to immediately issue regulations to restrict the use of e-cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
The chairman of the PDPI, Prof. DR Dr. Agus Dwi Susanto, expressed concern that vaping could become a “time bomb of health problems” in the next 10 to 15 years.
Prof. Agus explained his argument in detail by pointing to the prevalence of e-cigarette users in Indonesia, most of whom are teenagers, which has increased almost tenfold compared to 2011 data.

“The prevalence of e-smokers in Indonesia will reach 3.3 percent in 2022, with the majority being between 13 and 18 years old. This is very worrying because adolescence is the golden age of growth and development,” Agus said, according to the BBC.
Prof. Agus explained that e-cigarettes contain dangerous substances that can be harmful to health, including nicotine, tar, heavy metals and other chemicals. Nicotine in e-cigarettes can be addictive and increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Meanwhile, tar can cause lung cancer and heavy metals can cause brain and nerve damage.

“Vape may also increase the risk of adolescents becoming traditional tobacco smokers in the future,” Agus added.
The number of e-cigarette users in Indonesia is known to be “increasing rapidly.” According to the Global Youth Tobacco Survey from 2011, the proportion of e-cigarette users was 0.3 percent.
However, in 2018, this proportion increased significantly and reached 10.9 percent. ***
