What information and topics were consulted most frequently by RTS.ch readers in 2023? What topics brought them together? To better understand what drove their daily lives over the past year, we analyzed the audiences and content of the 3,650 most read articles of the year, day by day.
The best annual audiences provide a more general sense of what characterized the year. At the top of the list are the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. The coverage of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s mutiny at the end of June and the follow-up to the Hamas offensive on October 7 are among the most read publications of the year.
The economy and the wallet are also in the focus of the French-speaking population: the Credit Suisse affair, just like the premium comparison or our electricity price map by municipality, has caused the meters to panic.

The audience shows that internet users are keeping an eye on what is happening in Switzerland. Rich political news, especially this federal year, but also regional news. Readers followed with increased attention the consequences of this summer’s bad weather in La Chaux-de-Fonds or, more recently, the shooting in Sion, minute by minute. The accidental death of cyclist Gino Mäder in the middle of the Tour de Suisse left its mark on sport. Finally, the announcement of the death of Matthew Perry, the unforgettable interpreter of Chandler Bing in the series Friends, will have left 184,646 fans heartbroken.

On the Swiss side, in addition to the shooting in Sion, the violence in Lausanne, which was reminiscent of the unrest in France this summer, worried almost 80,000 readers. A little earlier, in March, there was the dramatic fire at a villa in Yverdon-les-Bains that left almost 100,000 people on our premises in suspense.

Money, the sinews of war
Lots of scandals
The numerous revelations about sexual abuse that have shaken the church or the acquittal of Tarik Ramadan are topics that have particularly concerned internet users. In June, it was the disappearance of the Titan submersible and its occupants that kept the Swiss in suspense. The discovery of the submarine’s remains, found in the depths near the Titanic wreck, led to 79,442 visits to the site.
