Recent Russian Attacks on Ukraine
By Bogdan Kochubey
In recent events, Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Dnipro regions, as well as the Black Sea port city of Odesa, have resulted in the tragic deaths of at least two civilians. Additionally, a food factory was set ablaze, and various infrastructure, homes, and commercial buildings were damaged, according to regional officials.
President Zelenskiy’s Response
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned Russia’s actions, revealing that they had utilized eight missiles and nearly 70 guided aerial bombs against communities and frontline positions. He also highlighted Ukraine’s air force successfully downing 13 Shahed drones that targeted the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions overnight.
Zelenskiy expressed that Moscow showed no interest in peace and emphasized the necessity of forcing Russia to cease its aggression. He called for a successful world peace summit in Switzerland in June, excluding Russia, to address the ongoing crisis.
Military Developments
Ukraine’s 110th mechanized brigade managed to bring down a Russian Su-25 fighter-bomber over the eastern Donetsk region, one of the areas Moscow claims to have annexed. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that Moscow had gained control of 547 sq km (211 sq miles) of territories this year.
Impact on Civilians
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv region, sadly reported casualties due to Russian shelling, including the death of a 49-year-old man in the village of Slobozhanske. An 82-year-old woman lost her life, and two men were injured in overnight shelling in Kharkiv city. Furthermore, a missile attack caused injuries to six employees and a fire at a food factory in Kharkiv.
In Odesa, three individuals were injured by a missile strike, as confirmed by regional governor Oleh Kiper.
Verification Challenges
While these reports of casualties and damage have been shared, Reuters has not been able to independently verify them. An air force commander claimed that all 13 attack drones were successfully brought down, but falling debris resulted in injuries and a fire in an office building, according to Syniehubov.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, shelling caused injuries to a 57-year-old woman and damaged infrastructure in Nikopol. Additionally, two individuals were wounded in another overnight attack near the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, as reported by regional governor Serhiy Lysak.

Before the match: Brann – Rosenborg / Brann
What a super weekend! The fire men beat Rosenborg, and tomorrow the women will do the same. It happens in front of several thousand supporters, but there is still room for many more. Tickets for you and the whole family can be found here.
The match against Rosenborg is therefore the first with Brann Stadion as the official home ground. The women’s team has played at the Stadium several times in the past, and each time it has ended in victory. The first match at the Stadium was in 2022, when 10,582 spectators saw Cecilie Redisch Kvamme become the match winner against Vålerenga. Relive that moment here.
Another Stadion victory would have done well now. Despite three straight victories, Brann is in a modest fourth place due to the loss against LSK Kvinner in the series opener. Rosenborg is six points ahead, admittedly with one game more played. After five games, they have a full pot and are thus level on points with Vålerenga at the top.
However, it hasn’t rained with Rosenborg scores so far this season. After 3-0 against Arna-Bjørnar in the first game, they have won 1-0 in the next four games. In the last three games, against Stabæk, Kolbotn and Røa, the scoring has come in the final minutes. The start of the season may indicate a stingy Rosenborg team whose strengths are in the defensive part of the game.
It’s perhaps not so unexpected, because that’s how it was last year too. Then they conceded only fifteen goals in 27 games, clearly the fewest in the series. It was still not enough for league gold – Vålerenga was one point ahead of Trønder at the end of the season. This winter they have lost key players Anna Jøsendal and Emilie Joramo, while head coach Steinar Lein has given up. Therefore, some have envisioned a Rosenborg downturn this year. That prediction has not come true so far, at least judging by the scoring.
Brann played three games against Rosenborg last year. The first two ended in defeat, so we have forgotten them. In round 24, they visited Stemmemyren, where scores from Rakel Engesvik and Marit Bratberg Lund ensured a 2-0 victory. The points did not help Brann, because the medal was lost anyway. But for Rosenborg, the loss was absolutely decisive – they lost the series lead three rounds before the end.
Now they will probably want revenge and continue their winning streak. Then they have to face thousands of festive Brann supporters ready to inaugurate Brann Stadion as their new home ground. Get the whole group of friends with you and watch Brann beat Rosenborg for the second time in two days!
Tickets for the match can be found here!
