NEW DELHI: The home ministry has directed the CBI to probe corruption in the functioning of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) flagship health program ‘Mohalla Clinics’. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena yesterday asked the CBI to investigate allegations of corruption in diagnostic tests conducted at the Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics. The order of the Ministry of the Interior follows.
According to concerned sources, fake radiology and pathology tests were conducted without patients in Mohalla clinics. Concerned sources said the initial investigation revealed that doctors who did not attend the clinics were recorded as attending doctors and diagnostic tests were prescribed to the patients who were not present.
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj also raised the issue on September 20. Seven doctors from the clinics were then withdrawn. Then it turned out that some doctors arrived at the clinics very late but recorded their attendance throughout the day. Bhardwaj welcomed the CBI probe but accused the central government of protecting the health minister.
“After I became minister, I was assigned to review the medicines. But the health minister did not carry out the audit. Welcomes the CBI investigation. But why is the Center protecting the health minister?,” he asked.
Bhardwaj said he had asked the Lieutenant Governor to immediately sack Health Minister Deepak Kumar. A few days ago, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had ordered another CBI probe into allegations of supply of substandard drugs to government hospitals in Delhi.
