Capcom has aroused the anger of its fans and consumers, especially PC users. Last week, the company came under fire after it began incorporating the infamous Enigma Protector DRM into some of its titles, a system intended to prevent piracy but which has led to degraded game performance and in turn makes it impossible to community to create mods for it.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, several users have reported that Enigma crashes computer antivirus programs, which has raised concerns among gamers whether this system could cause irreparable damage to their PCs. Against this background, claims arose, and the one that had to pay for these acts was the Resident Evil saga.
And several games in the franchise suffer from “review bombing,” a practice in which users leave negative reviews as a sign of protest. The most notable case is that of Resident Evil: Revelations, which garnered 573 “extremely negative” reviews on its Steam page due to the DRM update.
As a result, Capcom decided to pull the update due to “an issue observed with the last released update,” as explained in a post on Steam, but clarified that they will re-release the update in the future to re-incorporate the Enigma Protector . The same thing happens with Resident Evil 5 and 6, which also contained DRM and both receive “different” reviews for exactly the same reasons we explained at the beginning.
Here we leave you a list of all the company’s games that have so far been confirmed to have this system:
– Resident Evil 5
– Resident Evil 6
– Capcom Arcade Stadium
– Capcom Arcade 2. Stadium
– Ghost Trick (2023)
– Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Vol
– Mega Man Zero / ZX Legacy Collection
– Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
– Runner
Capcom’s position doesn’t seem to be changing, as they noted in a presentation from their research and development team (which you can see on their YouTube channel) that while some mods can have positive effects, others can harm the game company and damage the image of a product. As an example we could cite those who strip characters and that one of them recently happened to appear in an official Street Fighter 6 tournament with Chun Li.
