The suspects, identified as Kamalpreet Singh, Karan Brar, and Karampreet Singh, all in their 20s, were apprehended in Edmonton, Alberta.
Investigation into Possible Government Links
Police are currently investigating potential connections between the detainees and the Indian government. The incident, which involved masked gunmen fatally shooting Nijjar outside Vancouver, has raised concerns about political motivations and international implications.
International Diplomatic Fallout
The assassination of Nijjar has led to a diplomatic dispute between Canada and India, highlighting the complex relationship between the two countries. The arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the high-profile murder case.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Authorities are expected to press charges against the suspects in connection to the assassination plot. The legal proceedings are likely to shed light on the motives behind the targeted killing and the broader implications for Sikh separatist movements.
Global Attention on Sikh Activism
The incident has drawn global attention to the plight of Sikh activists and the challenges they face in advocating for their cause. The arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing tensions and conflicts within the Sikh community and the broader political landscape.
Continued Investigation and Updates
As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding Nijjar’s murder and the individuals involved in the plot. The case remains a focal point for law enforcement agencies and diplomatic officials seeking to unravel the complexities of the case.
Canada-India Diplomatic Feud Over Sikh Activist’s Killing
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ignited a diplomatic dispute with India in September by suggesting “credible allegations” of Indian involvement in the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India vehemently denied any role in Nijjar’s killing, despite accusing him of terrorist connections. In response to the allegations, India demanded Canada to recall 41 out of its 62 diplomats stationed in the country. While tensions persist, there has been a slight de-escalation since then.
Investigation into Suspects
According to Royal Canadian Mounted Police Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, the three suspects were residing in Canada as non-permanent residents. Mooker mentioned in a press conference in Toronto that they are exploring potential ties to the Indian government, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner David Teboul of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police stated that Canadian authorities are in communication with Indian counterparts. Describing the collaboration as “challenging,” Teboul highlighted the complexities involved in the process.
Current Developments
The investigation continues to unfold, shedding light on the intricate dynamics between Canada and India in the aftermath of Nijjar’s tragic death. As both nations navigate the complexities of this case, the global community watches closely to see how this diplomatic rift will evolve.
Charges Await Three Men in British Columbia
Three individuals are set to be transferred to British Columbia by Monday to answer to charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Nijjar’s Alleged Involvement in Sikh Movement
Nijjar, a Canadian citizen of Indian descent, worked as a plumber and played a significant role in the dwindling movement advocating for an independent Sikh homeland, known as Khalistan. Despite accusations linking him to terrorism, Nijjar consistently denied any such connections.
History of Sikh Insurgency in India
During the 1970s and 1980s, a violent Sikh insurgency plagued northern India until it was forcefully suppressed by the government, resulting in the deaths of numerous individuals, including prominent Sikh figures.
Current State of the Khalistan Movement
The Khalistan movement, once a potent political force, has significantly weakened over time but still garners support within Punjab, India, and among the extensive Sikh community residing abroad. Although the active insurgency has subsided, the Indian authorities have issued warnings about potential resurgence efforts by Sikh separatists.

An incident occurred in which a Korean man was shot and killed by police during a confrontation with police at an apartment in Koreatown, LA.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), at approximately 11 am on the 2nd, officers responded to a report that a mentally ill man was armed and causing a disturbance at an apartment located in the 400 block of Gramercy Place near Gramercy and 4th Street.
The police who arrived at the scene found a man in his 40s holding a weapon in the flat, and while trying to arrest him the police opened fire and the man died on the spot from a gunshot wound. The police said they got hold of the weapon the man was holding as evidence.
According to KCAL News, the man’s family called to report the man’s mental illness, and the family reportedly requested that the man be moved to a treatment facility. Agents from the LA Department of Mental Health were present at the scene, but the family of the deceased claimed that the police confronted the deceased immediately without cooperating with mental health experts, raising suspicions of an overreaction by the police.
Immediately after the incident, police closed off the area between 4th and 5th streets and said they were investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, including reviewing eyewitness testimony and body cameras. A police officer dispatched to the scene said only that “the deceased is an Asian male in his 40s,” and that “the investigation is currently underway.”
