THE Supermarket continues to flourish in Paris and the inner suburbs. After the opening of the Food Society of Ateliers Gaîté in 2022 and the Communale, the gigantic gourmet hall of Saint-Ouen that has just celebrated its inauguration, it is the turn of Boom Boom Villette to present its new face. Gone are the dark years of Vill’up, the distressed shopping center that closed in 2022. Time for leisure and street food.
After our test of the Batman Escape and while we wait for all the activities on offer, we hit the road 20,000 m²will open to the public during an inaugural evening on February 8, 2024 – which will make Boom Boom Villette the “largest indoor leisure destination” – News from Paris offers you an overview of the culinary offerings.
A food and leisure place
Covering an area of 4,000 m², the 800-seat food market offers a subdued atmosphere planted with olive trees and street art frescoes. We find there 21 kioskseach operated by a restaurateur, three bars (cocktail, wine and beer) as well two restaurants more traditional (La belle broche and Indiana).
This success is a first for Apsys, the commercial real estate company that had to “start from scratch” after the failure of Vill’up, recalls Victor Jouan, director of Boom Boom Villette. “In the end we created the first Food & Leisure [loisirs en anglais] market in France,” he boasts.

“We started from the realization that we need to be part of the strong ecosystem around us, that of the Parc de la Villette, which combines culture, especially the Cité des Sciences, and leisure,” explains Cécile Poprawa, sales manager. We visited many places in France and Europe to see what worked and what didn’t… By combining street food and events we are aiming for one very large customer basefamiliar, friendly, collegial, with rooms that can be privatized for team building or business seminars.

With this in mind, the Boom Boom Villette food court is built around a modular stage space, which will be the venue for DJ sets, conferences, concerts or comedy shows, depending on the time and program. Around thirty events are organized throughout the year in collaboration with Live Nation, the leader in French events.
Big names and new kids in street food
To bring together “the best of street food,” Boom-Boom Villette has relied on certain values of Parisian gastronomy, such as richness brunch and drinks from Pingwoo Café, the kings of Smash burgers Meatpacking or encore Naans revisited by Bollynan. But the place also gives pride of place to the nuggets of the neighborhood, for example with this of the frame d’Hakata Choten.

In addition to grilled cheese and hot dog Dim sum, banh mi, couscous, empanadas and Afro-Caribbean bokit with international influences are also on the menu in generous proportions. In terms of price, you can expect to pay an average of 8 to 20 euros for a dish.
Young talent competition
There will also be a new food court launch pad for new names, about a competition for young culinary talents. “The final will be at the beginning of March, we will have Alain Ducasse on the jury,” Cécile Poprawa has already announced. Finally, recognized chefs will take turns manning a kiosk in the residence. And it’s Merouan Bounekraf, former Top Chef contestant, who opens the ball.

Open since January 20th, the new gourmet hall seems to be well received by the first customers. “It wasn’t empty all weekend, we welcomed it 15,000 people“, welcomes Victor Jouan, the director. The opinions gathered between the tables a few days later seemed to confirm this good start. “The place is super beautiful and you can tell from the smell that something special awaits us,” marvels Agnès, a resident of the 19th arrondissement. Pauline, who was visiting the capital from Pau with her friend, discovered the place after a visit to the Cité des Sciences. “We had grilled cheese and I was not disappointed. I really like the concept. »
“We had to come here. “This place suits us, it suits Lebanese cuisine,” says Ziad, head chef Lebanese restaurant Noura. These are simple street food dishes that can be eaten at the table and mixed with events. It allows us to introduce our cuisine to the family audience.”
