All’s well that ends well. Despite some problems at customs, Arnold Schwarzenegger resold a luxury watch at auction on Thursday evening for 270,000 euros. “A happy outcome for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s customs adventure,” commented in a press release this Friday the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, an environmental organization that will receive the funds collected that evening in the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel.
The American actor failed to register his luxury jewelry when he landed in Munich on Thursday evening. An oversight that didn’t please German customs, who detained the Hollywood star for almost three hours. To continue his journey he had to pay a fine of 9,000 euros. Since German law requires part of these customs duties to be paid in cash, the 76-year-old actor was escorted by police to a bank to withdraw the funds. Criminal proceedings were initiated against him for tax fraud.
1.31 million euros collected
During the evening, the Hollywood actor used this incident to entertain his guests. On stage and to the great amusement of his 160 hand-picked guests, including American climate representative John Kerry, Arnold Schwarzenegger put on a show, joking about the incident in Munich, about the watch and the handcuffs the officials could have put on him. “It was a crazy experience,” he told an enthusiastic audience. According to a video published by celebrity news site TMZ.
In addition to the watch from the Swiss brand Audemars Piguet, which was valued by the German authorities at 26,000 euros, works of art and even a training session with the former weightlifter were also auctioned on Thursday evening. A total of 1.31 million euros was raised to support projects close to the actor’s heart, who organizes a climate conference in Vienna every year.
