Xpeng, the Chinese electric car maker that makes the G9 luxury SUV, unveiled a stunning flying supercar at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. The flying car known as eVTOL is the potential future of electric mobility.
What we know about a Chinese flying supercar that will be on display at CES 2024
This is the first time the innovative sports car has been seen outside of China, and event attendees were delighted to see the transition between ground and flight modes. The roof lifts to reveal eight folding carbon fiber blades, theoretically allowing the car to to rise to heaven.
If this idea comes true, the eVTOL will be one of the few flying cars that resembles a traditional car. Many flying cars compromise their exterior design to take to the skies, but the same cannot be said for the Xpeng EVTOL. However, despite its generous dimensions, the car only seats two passengers, and the interior is modern and new, with a forked steering wheel, blue and white accents, and a transparent infotainment screen that spans the entire width of the interior. Continental previewed a Swarovski crystal touchscreen at CES 2024, similar to the ones shown here.

The concept of a flying car has been around for some time, and although several companies are working on the idea, none have yet achieved commercial success. One may be skeptical about Xpeng Aeroht’s latest concept, but there is reason to believe that it will soon be the case. The reason for this is the flying car “Land Aircraft Carrier”, which Xpeng will begin delivering in 2025.
Although not technically a flying car, the land aircraft carrier features a two-piece design that allows owners to switch between land and air modes. The air unit is detached from the car and launches vertically for low altitude flights. This is a neat concept and will allow users to park their car somewhere – in a forest or by a lake, for example – and explore the rest of the area by air.

Aside from recreational activities, the land-based aircraft carrier can also be used for emergency and rescue operations, according to Xpeng Aeroht. With space for up to five passengers, this off-road vehicle has six wheels on three axles, four-wheel drive and rear wheel steering.
In summary, the Chinese company has completed all research and development testing and says the car is now preparing for mass production and pre-orders are expected to open in 2024. Can we expect a Tesla Cybertruck or Roadster to fly as a competitor with it? We wouldn’t bet on that happening one day.
