Launched by the United States, Canada and Europe, the space telescope will operate 1.5 million kilometers from Earth for a year, revolutionizing our knowledge of the universe. Not to mention the surprises it has to offer. The American space agency released a photo this week of a star cluster thousands of light-years away that resembles a pine tree.
NASA released a new photo this week of a star cluster nicknamed the “Christmas Tree Cluster.” She explained this contemporary phenomenon.
“The blue and white lights are young stars emitting X-rays discovered by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory. The optical data (…) shows the gas of the nebula in green, corresponding to the needles of the “tree”, and the infrared data (…) shows the foreground and background stars in white”.
In one video, the lights on this green cluster appear to flash like garlands. This star cluster is located in the constellation Unicorn and is about 2,500 light-years from the solar system. It would be around 9 million years old.
The James Webb Telescope allows scientists to study the planets of the Solar System and other planetary systems in an unprecedented level of detail thanks to its ability to see in infrared light. James Webb succeeds in penetrating the inner structure of nebulae. Look into these clumps of gas, plasma and dust to determine the process of star formation.
The Cité de l’espace hosts conferences to explain the advances made by the James Webb Telescope, which is just beginning its career. Perhaps he will be able to unveil the secrets of the early days of the universe and open up completely new areas of astrophysics.
