The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ünal Üstel, arrived in Turkey with his accompanying delegation to follow the hearing starting tomorrow on the hotel that collapsed in the February 6th earthquake, killing 72 people, including TRNC athletes, teachers and tour guides lost their lives.
In a statement to journalists at GAP Şanlıurfa Airport, Üstel recalled that almost a year has passed since the earthquake in which almost 50,000 people lost their lives.
“We will pursue the case with almost 100 people”
Üstel emphasized that they are following the case with almost 100 people from Cyprus and said:
*The pain is so great that our country has still not recovered, even though no buildings have been destroyed. We have lost our champion angels. We lost our children between the ages of 10 and 15 who would shape our future.
*We lost our teachers. We have lost our citizens. Now the legal process of these terrible events begins. Your first cases are being heard. We are here to monitor these cases involving almost 100 people. I am here as Prime Minister.
*We have three ministers with us who represent our government. These ministers are also our ministers and team who stayed here for days during the earthquake and coordinated the search and rescue efforts, as well as the leader of the main opposition party.
*I think this team is a concrete indicator of how sensitively we as a country approach this issue.
The focus is on a fair trial
Explaining that the case in question is one of thousands of cases, Üstel said: “The Isias case is also a common case of all people living in the TRNC. We trust the highest Turkish judiciary. For justice is the basis of property. “The property here” is the state. If there is no justice, there can be no state. Therefore, I believe that whoever is responsible will receive the punishment they deserve after a fair trial, as required by law. This is what you should know when criminals receive the most severe sentences they deserve, the sentences handed down here will serve as an important lesson for those who commit these crimes in the future.”
Prime Minister Üstel then traveled with the delegation to Adıyaman, where the hearing will take place tomorrow.
