After 30 long years, they reunite in the military barracks of Pangod. These 100 people who together represented the Kerala Lakshadweep Contingent for the 1993 Republic Parade at the Rajpath March in Delhi, the Prime Minister’s Guard of Honour, etc. It’s been a long time. Most of them didn’t even have a cell phone or a landline like today. The only thing left were some fond memories of the warm love instilled through various training camps and autograph sessions to unlock those memories.
But within a month, all these friends scattered in 14 districts of Kerala were states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Canada, America, England, Spain, Australia, Indonesia, Italy , UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, etc. The uniqueness of this group is that they were able to find them and bring them together under one roof. Through NCC, they have proven that they are capable of overcoming any crisis and winning. Laiju Thomas, principal of Thiruvambadi Muthappanpuzha St. Francis LP School, was the leader of the group. Laiju makes headlines for farming on the school premises and building a wall for the school by breaking stones nearby.
There were many difficulties in making all friends. Many people moved to distant places and went to work in other countries. But they overcame all these difficulties with determination. By leveraging their friendships in different corners of Kerala and visiting many places directly to investigate, they found their target. There are interesting experiences including going to Chittoor, a remote village in Palakkad district, walking for hours through Lenkesha and Teke villages to find a friend and finally finding him in Anchal, Kollam district.
A friend who hailed from Mancheri was searched in Mancheri and Karuwarakundi and finally found at Pookottumpad in Nilambur. He went to Nulpuzha in Wayanad district to find someone else. Without knowing the exact location, he entered some forest and paddy fields and found a village called Nulpuzha near Muthanga without coming into the eyes of the wild deer and found his friend at night. It was also an interesting experience to go to Thiruvananthapuram and meet Nooraman who thought he would never get it.
Ananthapuri and the Pangod military camp await the reunion of those friends who parted ways 30 years ago on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the NCC. Colonels in the Army, Captains in the Navy, Group Captains in the Air Force, DySP ranks in the Kerala Police, film actors, sound engineers, industry leaders, teachers, legal experts and those who have made martial arts including Kalari a part of preserving them during their lives In many areas these friends still retain the strength and energy they received from the NCC training.
She has many fond memories of the Delhi Republic Day Camp 1993. They are selected from thousands of cadets from Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram NCC groups and have undergone rigorous training at Kollam and Pangod camps in Thiruvananthapuram to achieve the Telling the story of their hard work to get a place with the 100-strong team. Many dropped out during training camps even though they won the primaries. After screening, the final 100 people will be selected. Many of them have excelled in the parade, cross country, cultural program, flagging, tent work and many other areas in Delhi. Thanks to the teamwork that brought Kerala to third place in the country this year. The fact that Kerala have not been able to reach the top three spots before or since also adds to the brilliance of this team.
