The Tragic Story of Mirna Soza
Every evening, Mirna Soza’s routine was much like the night before. For the past three years, she had been working as a security guard at Original Tommy’s hamburgers in North Hills, starting her shift around 7 p.m. and finishing around 3 or 4 a.m.
After work, she would often linger at the restaurant until sunrise before taking public transportation back home, where she would rest until it was time to repeat the cycle. Soza believed it was safer to commute when the sun was up, but sometimes fatigue would prompt her to leave earlier, as she did on that fateful Monday morning.
A Tragic Turn of Events
Tragically, just before 5 a.m. on Monday, Soza was fatally stabbed while riding the B Line train she took daily. She sustained injuries to her face and throat and managed to stumble onto the platform at Universal City station before succumbing to her wounds at Cedars-Sinai.
Shortly after the incident, Elliot Tramel Nowden was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Soza’s death.
A Life Cut Short
Soza, 66, led a solitary life in Los Angeles, where she had relocated in pursuit of financial stability to eventually return to Nicaragua for a more comfortable life. Born in Matagalpa, she had a small farm there before moving her family to Managua. Despite her time in Los Angeles, her heart always remained in Nicaragua.
She had a passion for ecology, having studied the subject in college, and instilled a love for nature in her children. Soza’s daughter, Mirna Roman Soza, reminisced about her mother’s kindness and generosity, especially towards the homeless individuals near Tommy’s.
Unforeseen Tragedy
Soza’s family, worried by her absence on Monday morning, began a frantic search that led them to the LAPD station where they received the devastating news of her passing. The family’s hopes were shattered as they realized the grim reality of her untimely death.
Violent crimes on Metro trains have been on the rise since 2019, with a noticeable increase in homicides, aggravated assaults, and robberies. The safety that Soza once felt during her nightly commutes was shattered by the tragic events that unfolded.
Remembering Mirna Soza
Despite the distance, Soza’s bond with her family in Nicaragua remained strong. Her daughter, Roman Soza, shared that they spoke daily about their longing to reunite and Soza’s desire to return to her homeland.

Police operation at the University of Mannheim
Mannheim. A man died on Tuesday after a police operation involving the use of firearms in Mannheim. The 31-year-old, armed with a machete, is said to have previously attracted negative attention in the area of the university library at the University of Mannheim, the Mannheim public prosecutor’s office, the Mannheim police headquarters and the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced in the evening.

This is what is known about the suspected rioter
The deceased was a man born in Saarbrücken and living in Mannheim who had already appeared before the police in the past. According to the investigators’ current findings, the 31-year-old has already been banned from entering the university library due to his repeated, conspicuous negative behavior.
LKA is investigating the death of a man in Mannheim
The focus of the investigations by the public prosecutor’s office and the LKA would now be particularly on a reconstruction of the entire sequence of events.
