Description

The first issue of the Calhoun Times was printed Aug. 12, 1870. During its long history the newspaper has been the legal organ of Gordon County, keeping residents within the county and in surrounding areas well informed, and curating local history. The founder and first editor of the Calhoun Times was Elam Christian. Of the list of the paper's editors and publishers, J. Roy McGinty holds the length-of-tenure record, covering 50 years of its history, from 1929 to 1979, serving his last years as emeritus editor and guest columnist. Times-Journal Inc. based in Marietta, Ga., acquired the newspaper in Feb. of 2015. The Calhoun Times office is currently run by managing editor and Gordon County native Blake Silvers who took over in Jan. of 2021.
