What is most important in everyday life?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), physical activity is “any body movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires an expenditure of energy” in excess of that required at rest. It therefore includes domestic tasks such as gardening, cleaning, shopping, DIY, etc. But also active travel such as walking, climbing stairs, cycling, etc.

Sporting activity is more likely “associated with the search for results or achievements in a competitive or recreational context with precise rules,” recalls Régis Juanico, an expert in public sports policy, in his work “Bougeons”.

More physical activity than sport

When it comes to health, “it is the physical activities of daily life that make the difference,” he emphasizes. They are simply “vital”, regardless of age and health status!

In fact, he continues: “Like a medication, the effects only last 24 to 48 hours.” Regularity is therefore essential. If you go two or three days without exercise, you lose the benefits of the movements that produced you.”

Against a sedentary lifestyle

That’s why it’s important to move every day. That’s what the national campaign, aptly titled “Get 30 minutes of exercise every day,” is all about. A real call to action, as the promotion of physical and sporting activity has been elevated to the status of a major national concern for 2024.

The challenge ? Combat a sedentary lifestyle by “challenging your routines in your personal or professional life to choose an option that allows you to move as quickly as possible,” the government argues.

And finally: “You don’t have to become an athlete to reap the physical and mental benefits of physical activity.” The main thing is to move. Move more, more often and more regularly.”
