On Monday, January 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Ukrainians abroad for their support during the Russian invasion and proposed constitutional amendments to allow dual citizenship, as the Ukrainian constitution currently does not give Ukrainian citizens the right granted dual citizenship. On the symbolic Day of Ukrainian Unity, which commemorates the unification of the eastern and western parts of Ukraine in 1919, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted the comprehensive bill to amend the law to the Supreme Council (Verkhovna Rada).
“This will allow all ethnic Ukrainians and their descendants from around the world to receive our citizenship.

Expressing his gratitude to the diaspora, including those who have joined the fight for Ukraine, President Zelensky said that the words “I am Ukrainian” had a symbolic meaning and praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
To propose constitutional changes, the approval of Parliament is required and this process could take about a year, as well as the approval of the Constitutional Court, he writes Reuters.
