The Vibes Pill (Vibratory Ingestible Electronic Stimulation) plays on this mechanism. Intended to be taken 20 to 30 minutes before a meal, it vibrates slightly, creating a sensation as if the stomach is expanding, aiding in the control of food intake and possibly aiding in weight management.
A cost-effective alternative with no side effects
This promising tablet consists of a vibration motor, a battery and a glucose membrane. Once taken, the pill dissolves in the stomach, causing the glucose to mix with the stomach fluid, triggering the vibration mechanism. The results, published in the journal Scientific advances, show that the pill – currently being tested on animals – resulted in a significant and consistent reduction in feed consumption by pigs participating in the experiment. They showed no obvious signs of distress or negative side effects. The pill was well tolerated and passed through the digestive tract normally. Therefore, it is promising in the treatment of diseases associated with overeating, but also in the control of type II diabetes by helping to maintain blood sugar levels at an appropriate level. Added to this is the price, as it is designed to be economical and produced in large quantities.
