Lütfü Savaş dead end: Something has to change

Of course not. We have the most advanced tool humanity has ever developed, called science, which allows us to both understand our current reality and plan what will happen to us in the future. While many life-stricken people today try to heal their spiritual wounds with the good news of astrology, science is literally taking a “Full HD” photo of tomorrow and presenting it to us. Eyes that see, ears that hear, “See, that’s the situation. If you don’t take the necessary precautions and prepare, things won’t get better for you.” he warns.

Our former colleague at BirGün, Serbay Mansuroğlu, is also an earthquake victim like hundreds of thousands of people today. Serbay conveyed science’s warnings to the public in his message dated November 9, 2011, in which he focused on the consequences of a possible earthquake in his hometown of Hatay and included the statement of Lütfü Savaş, the mayor of Antakya at the time. Scientists and TMMOB managers whose opinions were expressed in the news emphasized and warned that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Hatay would trigger a catastrophe: “12-13,000 buildings are in danger, 40,000 people will die!”

BirGün, November 9, 2011

Science said it, and we wrote it exactly 12 years before the great Maraş earthquakes. What happened on February 6th was not part of the unchanging plan of fate. However, all the lives lost were not enough to change CHP’s Hatay plan. Even if Lütfü Savaş’s mistakes continued after February 6th…

While there was mixed grief for those who had lost the faint consolation of saving their lives in a ruined city, Savaş was in a hurry to keep the developers of the dilapidated buildings in check and calm the reaction of those in charge. What about the contractor of Rönesans Residence? “He is an idealistic person” and it’s not there either “If the community and those who do this work are questioned too much, we will shame them.” The expression is forgotten.

The worst thing is that the CHP government has also taken over the responsibility of Lütfü Savaş. In a live broadcast in which he took part, Özgür Özel said: “The decision we will make in Hatay will be a very historic decision because we must abide by everything that the President of Hatay says about the President “Think about the earthquake.” If there is destruction in a city, everyone in that city is responsible. “If there is a fault here, you cannot say that the local governments are not at fault,” he said.

However, the reason why CHP could not remove Savaş’s name was the argument of “the candidate who will strengthen the chances of winning in Hatay.” It was said that the polls were in favor of Lütfü Savaş. Özel responded to the reactions to Savaş’s candidacy by saying: “We get a lot of votes from rural areas and lose if we call other names.” “We couldn’t find an alternative,” he said.

Does an election victory always mean a political victory? Is politics about making decisions based on interviews with well-known people or about putting the right candidate with the right policies and program in a position to get elected? The CHP administration’s response to these questions, especially in Hatay, is not at all promising for them.

However, politics should not be viewed this way; Politics should not be reduced to just the poll factor and turned into a technical activity separate from ideas, dreams, ideals and utopias. Politics is made with people, with their feelings, hopes and thoughts. Even if Hatay was won by Lütfü Savaş on March 31, nothing will change. The winner will not be the opposition, but the politics of profit, negligence and irresponsibility that has been identified with the AKP for years. Because you can’t win elections by losing values.

The opposition candidate in Hatay is unlikely to be among those responsible for the destruction. It appears CHP will not change its decision. At this stage, the historical task falls to the leftists, socialists, revolutionaries, in other words, to the shining faces of the country, who stormed into the city immediately after the earthquake with their purest feelings, organized work and solidarity and showed that We want Hatay with the Revitalize the people of the city.

Starting today, all progressive, democratic and left forces of Hatay City will enforce all conditions to determine an independent mayoral candidate whom they will agree on and agree on principles without being limited to party lines or group interests.

Also the great poet Ahmet Telli Wait for me As he said in his poem; “But you can’t get used to the pain/there are things that will change/there are things we have to change/we’ll start with the pain first.”
