The Volkswagen Amarok could have had an SUV sibling, this is what it should have looked like

It’s no secret that the new Volkswagen Amarok shares technology with the new Ford Ranger, which is a staple of compact pickups. However, Ford also produces the Everest SUV model based on the Ranger, which is available in some parts of the world. However, Volkswagen had apparently been thinking about a similar concept for a long time.

Albert Kirzinger, chief designer of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, showed the official sketch of the new Amarok in the SUV version on LinkedIn. Although the model has the Amarok name on the hood, it is likely that this will change over time. But there was probably no more room for that. And it probably won’t.

Lars Krause, board member of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, ruled out an SUV model based on the robust VW Amarok frame chassis in an interview with CarExpert in July 2022.

“It always occurs to us that we could also create a rugged SUV based on a pickup truck, but we believe it is the pickup truck that currently brings the best value to our customers,” he said in a statement at the time Interview. The brand also relies on accessories, such as a hardtop for the body, which closes and secures the loading space.

Volkswagen then decided to solve the lack of a robust frame SUV or off-road model in the model range in a completely different way. In the US, the Scout brand has been revived, with plans to launch a robust all-electric SUV and pickup truck in 2026. In keeping with the brand’s tradition, you can expect first-class off-road capability from these models.
