The most deserving and patients’ beloved Lithuanian doctors are honored, 5 medical institutions – an exclusive gift from lrytas.lt

The awards are traditionally given on the occasion of Lithuanian Medical Workers’ Day. However, just like last year, the ceremony took place between two significant dates for the medical community – Lithuanian Medical Workers’ Day and International Nurses’ Day.

The Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkys awarded special medals of honor to more than 70 doctors, nurses and health care workers of the country.

Congratulating doctors and the entire health care community on the holiday, the minister said that after all the trials that had to be endured in the last few years, focus is needed for further work.

“Doctors need trust in patients and patients in doctors, doctors trust in nurses and nurses in doctors. Trusting each other is vital to keeping us all focused. I wish that our entire community of nearly 50,000 members would see increasing trust as the main immediate goal – trust in their profession, regardless of who and where they work, trust in health care, trust in the State and its capabilities to ensure everyone has access to treatment and help”, – said A. Dulkys.

Congratulating on the occasion of the last day of Lithuanian medical workers, which is celebrated every year on April 27, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė thanked all the doctors who lack dedication, professionalism and empathy, who work every day for the health of every person, the possibility of a full life and even the life of the patient.

“You are the real guardians of our society, without whom we would not be able to grow Lithuania so successfully and overcome various challenges. Lithuanian doctors are valued all over the world – they are extremely highly qualified specialists who have not only a lot of necessary knowledge and dedication to their chosen profession, but also a desire to constantly improve, to be interested in innovations, so that they can help their patients in every possible way.

I am also happy that in recent years we hear more and more often not only about Lithuanian doctors working in prestigious jobs abroad, but also about those in the medical field who return to Lithuania and generously share their acquired experience and innovative ideas”, said I. Šimonytė.

75 deserving doctors of the country were honored

Recent Case of Circo Virus Type 3 in Fruit Rejection at Breeding Farm Raises Concerns

In the context of a routine examination of fruit rejected at GD, pool samples of fluid from the body cavities are examined for the PRRS and Parvo virus, while heart muscle tension is tested for Circo virus type 2. In addition, a bacterial culture is performed on the contents of the stomach and the heart and the placenta are examined histologically. If there are signs of myocarditis in the heart and the test for Circo virus type 2 is negative, it may be useful to test the heart muscle tissue for Circo virus type 3.

In the literature, Circo virus type 3 is associated with late pregnancy complications and additional stillbirths. Royal GD was recently involved in a rejection case in gilts and sows at a breeding farm. The sows showed no obvious illness, no fever, only a slight increase in temperature during farrowing. Two litters were submitted for research: five days and four weeks premature. Research showed that the rejection may have been caused by the Circo virus type 3.

There is no vaccine against Circo virus type 3 and no cross-protection is expected through vaccination against Circo virus type 2. On-farm measures should focus on appropriate quarantine of gilts. However, this case involved both gilts and sows, so it could also be a new disease. Since infection in the early stages of pregnancy is known to have a particularly negative effect, the infection in these animals probably occurred about two months ago. After a peak in abortions, the company became silent.

Although few measures affecting personal finances come into force this Wednesday, May 1, key deadlines will however occur throughout the month.

May 1: increase in the minimum salary for home-based employees

An increase in the minimum salary of home-based employees, the second since the start of 2024, applies from May (for salaries paid at the end of May), following negotiations between the social partners.

In detail, the level 1 employee on the salary scale, without sector certification (occasional babysitter, family job without training, etc.), must be paid at least 12 euros gross (9.22 euros net) per hour instead of 11.75 euros (excluding paid leave). It is 12.26 euros gross (instead of 12.01 euros) for childcare at home without professional qualifications (level 3).

Employees of private employers “are now paid 3% above the minimum wage for level 1 of the scale, and this principle is sustainable since it is included in the amendment to the collective agreement negotiated in January”explains Sigried Debruyne, statutory and social dialogue president of the Federation of Individual Employers of France.

As for the hourly salary of the childminder, it increases from 3.45 euros to 3.50 euros gross, and from 3.59 euros to 3.64 euros with a “professional title” (per child welcomed, excluding paid leave and excluding maintenance allowance and meal costs).

An increase in the rate of the conventional employer contribution for professional training, from 0.40% to 0.70%, also appears on the pay slips relating to the month of April. “It will make it possible to carry out additional training operations and make up for the drop in training departures linked to the reduction in training budgets occurring in mid-2023”says Ms. Debruyne.

May 1: slight increase in the “benchmark” price of gas

The average benchmark selling price of natural gas (PRVG) increased for May, by 1.4% compared to April, to 111.19 euros including tax per megawatt hour (MWh). It includes fixed (subscription) and variable portions, for cooking/hot water and heating consumers connected to the GRDF network. In question, a “slight increase in wholesale market prices of natural gas, which had been falling since the end of 2023”notes the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

Published every month by the CRE since the abolition of regulated gas prices in mid-2023, this benchmark price aims to help consumers compare offers. This is’“an average estimate of the costs borne by suppliers for the supply of natural gas to a residential customer”integrating “supply costs (on the wholesale market) and non-supply costs” (commercial, transport and storage costs, supplier remuneration, etc.).
