Gendarmerie specialist Sergeant İrfan Mert, son of Tahir Mert, who lives in Topboğazı district of Kırıkhan district of Hatay, died in a conflict with terrorists in 2016 while serving in Dağlıca district of Hakkari. The experiences of father Tahir Mert, whose philosophy of life changed with the martyrdom of his son, move the listeners. Father Mert, who was addicted to alcohol before his son’s martyrdom, stopped drinking alcohol after his dream and stopped selling alcohol at work. Father Mert, whose lifestyle changed after his son’s martyrdom; He soon completed his pilgrimage and began to be an example to those around him. The memorial room that the martyr’s father built for his son survived the catastrophe of the century unscathed.

“My son, who drank too much alcohol before his martyrdom; “I was someone who drank alcohol 24 hours a day, day and night.”

The martyr’s father, who explained that he had prayed for days to get rid of the alcohol addiction he had fallen into after his son’s martyrdom, said: “We said good luck, my son, and he went and started his ministry there.” Fortunately he worked there for four and a half years. After four and a half years, they got into a heated conflict. My son died in a heated conflict with terrorists. May God accept the martyrdom of all our martyrs. Our teachers and imams read the Koran here for weeks. It was as if they had helped us here and lived this moment with us. We were also very happy with them. So this is home; If you don’t go today, if I don’t go, who will go and protect this country? So that we can be martyrs, anything can happen. Of course, my son was also martyred. My son who drank too much alcohol before his martyrdom; I was someone who drank alcohol day and night, 24 hours a day. That’s why I couldn’t go to bed the day I didn’t drink alcohol. My body tingled. I mean, I was like a heroin addict now. So I was an alcohol drinker for forty years. On the contrary, in order to give up this, I said to my Lord: “O God, since you have considered me worthy to be the father of a martyr, save me from this disease.” I always prayed and begged my Lord. “And my Lord has heard my prayers,” he said.

After the dream he saw, he began to pray and never drank alcohol again.

The martyr’s father, who explained that with the dream he had after his prayers and requests, he started praying and stopped selling alcohol at work, said: “Meanwhile, I lay there for a while while I was on on my right side.”, a person came to me with both hands and lightly touched my body in this way. I thought so too. I said I think I didn’t lock the door but left it open. It was morning, I guess the customer came. I turned left and encountered darkness. I said I’m coming friend and then I opened the door and from the other door the darkness came out and the shadow disappeared. I looked at the door again, it was locked. I said, “Oh my God, who was that?” It was such a beautiful touch, I mean there can’t be such a beautiful touch, that touch surrounded my body. After a while, the morning adhan was recited. That morning the Adhan touched my soul so much that so many Adhans were recited, but this touch, the sound of this Adhan took me to a bigger world. I said I have to do the morning prayer and this man made me pray. I had half a bottle of whiskey in the fridge and poured it down the sink first. I definitely didn’t drink alcohol after prayer, but I always wanted to. I said to my son Mesut: Come here, my son; They take all the beer, wine and whiskey, put them in the boxes and deliver them to the kiosk in Kırıkhan. It is the workplace where we shop. I told him to deliver them and not to bring me the money from there. Let his money be yours. I said I will register for Hajj. And we closed the shop to go on a pilgrimage. “We closed the store, we went on a pilgrimage and came back,” he said.

Pointing out that in the room he created for his son, during the once-in-a-century disaster when huge buildings collapsed, the martyr’s father pointed out that no furniture was damaged and there was no change in the photos, saying: “Everyone Glasses on the buffet were on the floor.” Floor, broken. The bride has nothing left. All the plates were broken. Well, one day it came to our minds. A day, two days later we said let’s look at our martyr’s room. Believe it or not, even the images didn’t play. Something was lost in one of them. My God, what kind of thing is this, what kind of divine providence is this? Not even the images were played. One of them had a slight slip. It is the divine will of my Lord; I mean, can something like this happen? I mean, won’t the glass of one of these kiosks move? My husband played with the stove and this is how it went. Isn’t the buffet playing? It doesn’t. “Won’t the pictures fall? They didn’t,” he said.
