The Vatican requests a report on the uniformity of worship in the Syro-Malabar Church. Vatican Apostolic Administrator Bishop Bosco Puthur has been directed to immediately provide an accurate count of the number of churches in the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese that began Unity Mass on Christmas Day. The Archdiocesan Curia has begun the survey process to prepare the report. Vicar General of Varghese Potakan Archdiocese and Chancellor Martin Kallingal are conducting the survey. Meanwhile, special forms were delivered to each mosque. Pastors are advised to fill up the forms and send them to the WhatsApp number without informing others.
A copy of the form was obtained by The Fourth. A report prepared on the basis of these documents will be submitted to the Pope and the Office for the Oriental Churches through the Vatican Ambassador to India. Afterwards, Apostolic Administrator Bishop Bosco Puthur will reach the Vatican for a meeting with the Pope. Archbishop Cyril Wass, papal delegate of the archdiocese, will also take part in the meeting. The Vatican will soon announce further steps on this matter.
Meanwhile, mass strife in the Syro-Malabar Church is becoming a law and order issue. Many churches are on the verge of closure. One of the archdiocese’s main churches, the Paravur-Kottakkao pilgrimage center, was closed because mass could not be held there.
There were heated arguments during the mass at the Kaladi Church in Thanipuzha. With the help of the police, the rebels overpowered the Pope’s supporter who had interrupted the mass. Then there was a public mass.
