The electric Porsche Taycan atomizes the Tesla Model S with this new record

After being dethroned by the Tesla Model S, the Porsche Taycan reclaims its crown at the Nürburgring. But even though the German sports car is one of the fastest electric cars in the world, it is still overtaken by the incredible Rimac Nevera.

Porsche Taycan Turbo S

In recent years, electric car manufacturers have fought several battles. The sales figures were won by the Chinese BYD, or even the prices, with the sharp decline orchestrated by Tesla. But that’s not all, because the war is also fought on the ground, more precisely on a circuit.

The Taycan is back in power

It is indeed on the Nürburgring track, known as the most difficult and demanding in the world, which is rejected by manufacturers. This is where they test most of their cars and use the opportunity to achieve incredible performances. Therefore, speed records are regularly broken on this route. And these are obviously not reserved for thermal cars, quite the opposite.

Because electrics don’t have to be ashamed. For several years, two manufacturers have been engaged in a merciless battle over what we call the “Green Hell”. These are Porsche and Tesla, two brands that at first glance have nothing to do with each other. And yet, in 2019, the German company launched its first electric car, the Taycan, which hunts squarely in the Model S’s territory.

And this has been the case for more than four years The two rivals face each other at the Nürburgring to find out who has the fastest car. With a lap time of 7:25.231, thanks to a small improvement, it was the Model S Plaid so far. And Porsche didn’t really like that, and they decided to take revenge. Now it’s done, because the Taycan is once again ahead of its competitor, as announced on the website Department of Motor Vehicles. The German sedan is now complete the 20.832 kilometers of the route in 7:07.55.

Enough to beat the previous record set in 2022 with a Turbo S equipped with specific settings that would then be offered to customers. Regarding the brand’s new performance, Porsche did not provide any information about which version of the sedan it was. But it is likely that this is also the variant that covers the range, from the top of its 761 hp Thanks to his boost. Unless it is an even more radical variant?

Not the fastest

And for good reason: a prototype of the Taycan in October 2022 was seen in the test phase at the time on the German race track. The latter could be a brand new, even more efficient version. There were rumors at the time that the latter would be equipped with three engines and have an output of more than 1,000 horsepower. Enough to aim directly and clearly the Tesla Model S Plaid and its 1,020 hp.

Porsche could unveil the new facelifted Taycans in mid-March 2024, as the record press release suggests the full on-board video will go online around this time of year.

There is no doubt that Elon Musk’s company should not stop there and will undoubtedly seek revenge quickly. Especially since the latter is already in the red due to the fact that its Chinese rival BYD has become the latter Number 1 in the world in the electricity sector recently. Can we expect the release of a new, even more radical version? Nothing can be ruled out at the moment.

Especially since we remember that Tesla had planned the launch a few years earlier a Model S Plaid +, produces no less than 1,100 hp and reaches a top speed of 322 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h took place in less than two seconds. But in June 2021, Elon Musk posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) to announce this This variant would be repealed. Could it finally see the light of day?

Regardless, the two competitors will still have a lot to do to set the absolute record in the electric car category at the Nürburgring. And for good reason, the latter is currently held by Rimac Nevera, who completed the tour in just 7:05:298 last August.
