The Chinese are once again bringing a shockingly cheap electric car onto the market

This year will be a very serious turning point between Chinese and long-established European car manufacturers, especially when it comes to electric cars. There were already very serious signs of this last year, which Volkswagen, one of the continent’s largest manufacturers, among others, did not consider to be a serious threat. The lead of Chinese manufacturers will slowly become unattainable, be it in technology or price. This year, Asians will move to an even more serious pace.

At the beginning of last year, we reported that Geely, one of the strongholds of the Chinese automotive industry, would introduce a new product line galaxy under the name It is expected that there will be no problems with quality as Geely serves car brands such as Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr or Geometry.

Not much was known about the Geely Galaxy brand at the time of its launch early last year, but recently the Chinese have spread their cards. And this took shape in the E8 sedan, which is characterized by high quality and good design. In addition, the model offered at the basic price already has a battery with a capacity of 62 kWh.

The main issue here is the base price, which has become shockingly low. Even the Chinese automotive press was surprised by the converted base price of US$24,700, which is around HUF 8.5 million.

That’s why we’re getting the SEA base plate developed by Geely, which has already proven itself many times over. By default the system voltage is 400 V, but in the full version the customer can expect 800 V and a battery capacity of 76 kWh. The Galaxy E8 is a mid-sized electric sedan with a length, width and height of 5010 mm, 1920 mm and 1465 mm and a wheelbase of 2925 mm. Based on the articles from foreign media, in the case of the Galaxy E8 we can look forward to a very well-made electric car made of high-quality materials, with the following pricing based on the 5 available trims:

  • 175,800 RMB (24,700 USD)
  • 185,800 RMB (26,100 USD)
  • 198,800 RMB (27,935 USD)
  • 218,800 RMB (30,750 USD)
  • 228,800 RMB (32,150 USD)

It is no coincidence that I wrote in the introduction that manufacturers who want to compete with the Chinese also have something to fear this year.
