The battle is on and the results of the best-selling cars in Europe have revealed their winners. For the first time in history, a thoroughbred electric car from a young North American automobile manufacturer, which produces it for Europe mainly in Berlin at the Gigafactory Brandenburg, won.

The winning Tesla Model Y, whose birthplace is Freemont (California), Shanghai and Texas, made its way to Europe in 2023 with more than a quarter of a million units sold. The Dacia Sandero came second with more than 235,000 units sold, while the Volkswagen T-Roc took bronze with almost 207,000 units reported.

The Czech footprint is represented by the tenth Škoda Octavia, which reached its customers in quantities of over 160,000 units. It is worth mentioning the 12th place, where the European Toyota Yaris is produced in Kolín (less than 159,000 units), as well as the 13th place, where the Hyundai Tucson produced in Nošovice (less than 159,000 units) is placed.

The biggest sales jumps compared to 2022 are recorded by Tesla Model Y (+85.2%), Renault Clio (+41.6%), Skoda Octavia (+43.5%), Nissan Qashqai (+25.4%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+29.0%). Toyota Yaris (−9.5%) and Peugeot 208 (−6.1%), however, recorded a decline in sales.

The title of “best-selling car of the year in Europe” was secured for the first time by an electric car.

In addition, the Tesla Model Y is recording sales success wherever it is sold, for example in the USA it took fifth place for 2023. And all this is more than respectable, because it is a model that was introduced in 2019 and onwards Was produced in 2020.

So, in three years after the start of production, the title of the best-selling car in Europe? This deserves recognition, because if the revised Model Y Juniper is as successful as its sister model 3 Highland, then the direct – especially the German – competition will probably have severe headaches and poor sleep.
